Adobe icons

Adobe Photoshop is hogging the icons. I change the jpeg icon but it never changes on the files. When I look where the Adobe Icons are it says, "adobe.exe." Any suggestions on how to change Adobe image file icons?
Thanks

tell Adobe to stop it

go into the preference and find the file associations - uncheck the ones you don't want Adobe to take over

Ok, I'm back. This is making me mad. I have uninstalled IconPackager, reinstalled it, downloaded a new package and the jpg and gif icons are still messed up! Grrrrrrrrr

if it's still installed

in settings > try the repair button, then check your icons

if not fixed, then restore to default (then maybe repair again if needed) see if you can get back to default 1st. then try a package change

Thank you for your help. I had previously gone through my icons from package builder and set them to the default.
Just now I loaded and applied Windows default icons, repaired icons, loaded and applied another package, repaired icons.....Still the jpg and gif stay with the adobe icon!

Right click on the .jpg or .gif thumbnail and go down to Properties. In the window you see Type of file.
Click on change and it will open a new small window where you can choose from the menu of programs how your .jpg's or .gifs should be open.

Enjoy

Already did that. I have them set to open with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

once right clicked on - choose 'icon' tab

see if you can repair or change the icon

did you undo file associations in Adobe?

There is no where in Adobe to redo file extensions. So I uninstalled it and did a repair. When it got to file extensions there is no where to disable them or re-direct them.

should be somewhere in preference, file associations - that option which makes adobe the default - I don't have adobe at home - at home i have psp = in psp it's: file > preferences > file format associations == check everything I want to be associated with psp

every graphic program i've installed (even viewers like irfanview) have that option somewhere - i know i found it in adobe at work, just don't remember where

did you try repairing and/or changing via the 'icon' tab in properties (when right clicking a pic)?

yes, I tried that. I will search somemore to see if I can find a file preference extension. thanks

not extension - association

open adobe help and search: file association / file type association / make default (if that comes up then undo what it says do)

I am on an Adobe forum also looking for an answer. They say the only place to change a file association is when you install it. But the choice is to associate the gif and jpg files with Photoshop OR Image Ready. No where can you not associate them. Adobe forum says the file association has nothing to do with the icon.

i'm not that sure about that - but i won't be into work for a long while to check

i do know - if i set irfanview's associations, my icons turn into irfanview's icons

i've also seen it with music players and audio icons

did you right click one and try the icon tab?

When I open IP, then choose the windows default icons (in icon packages) and load/apply - then browse to a jpg and right click it, properties, icon tab, change icon - it opens up and tells me the default one is here: C:\WINDOWS\system32\shimgvw.dll

so, can you change it to the default?

I can go through the motion of changing it to the default but when all is done it doesn't change.

hmph.. closest thing I can find is #301 on the right
save it for last

do you have icon developer also?

How about using another program like Irfanview to snag the file associations first? Then you can change them to whatever you want after Irfanview has taken them over.
