Non WDDM graphics - refund?

Hi..

I've just purchased Windows Blinds enhanced in order to enable the 'glass' type effect in Vista. However, due to *excitement/stupidity* (delete as appropriate) I didn't check the details about non WDDM drivers...I just assumed that Windows Blinds would be possible to make the change as a friend of mine has the glass effect in XP with the same GPU.

Anyway, it seems that there's nothing I can do to 'cheat' the glass effect unless I upgrade my GPU which I plan to do later in the year...does anyone think I have a good chance at getting a refund back? I made the purchase within the last 2 hours and have already emailed the sales team to request one but i've read quite a few posts from people who've emailed Stardock but not got a reply at all.

Thanks for any advice

I would personally keep it until you get a new GPU which is a must-have for Vista, and so is WB because it is so cool, especially with WB6 coming out that you will get for free.

Thanks for the reply PurrBall.

It may sound odd but the only reason I bought WB was to have the glass effect until I upgraded GPU...i'm not really interested in using other skins as I do like the way Vista looks on the whole, just kinda feel i'm missing out on the glass effect (as well as the 3D flip). So I thought $19 (£9.50) was a reasonable amount of money to spend to have that for now...i'm not made of money of anything, I just saw it as a quick fix and now i'm stuck with a program which has absolutely not use for me

You've done what you needed to do. The "user" forums aren't likely to be able to help you get your money back.

Emailing sales@stardock.com is all that you can do then

I've emailed them and they've referred me to tech support to see if a resolution can be found but I don't think it can due to the limitations of my GPU....I may be able to get a partial refund (75%) it's better than nothing I suppose.

Thanks all

I doubt you'll get yer money back since you've got the software...i'd guess they would treat it like store bought software, no money back, just switch products...what do i know though. Good luck.

What GPU do you have? GeForce 5200 and up and Radeon 9600 and up support WDDM.

I have Radeon 9200 SE so don't think there are any WDDM drivers out there for me???

so if you purchased WindowBlinds 5.5, you get WB6 for free?

where did you read that?

i've seen many programs that once a new version comes out, they ask people to pay again.

"Stardock has also begun work on WindowBlinds 6 which will provide a host of native features to Windows Vista such as custom blur effects, Sidebar skinning, glass toolbar skinning, and some new features that Stardock is keeping under wraps.  Users who purchased WindowBlinds 5 after February 1st will receive WindowBlinds 6 free."

Thought i'd update...apologies for bumping an old thread

I have just upgraded GPU...nothing spectacular, Sapphire ATI Radeon x1950 so that should solve the Vista 'glass' problem.

While I was at it, I bought a new mobo, cpu and ram too

That certainly won't hurt....
