Start Menu Text

How can you make the highlighted text in the start menu behave like it does for the default XP theme? I want the text in the programs menu to be black and when the mouse hovers over, to be white. I have attempted to edit the mouse over/focus color for that section with no effect, but when I edit the font color then it changes the normal and highlight on the menu to white text. I've also played around with the text colors in Miscellaneous > Colors with no better result.

I know it can be done because the default XP theme can do it, but looking through that has offered no better insight. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

If the skin you are creating or editing is using an image for Item (highlight on mouse over), there will be no color change on mouse over. Can only have color change when using classic color for highlight; Misc. Colors, Menus, Highlighted Background (XP only).

So it can't be done? Well, that just sucks. And apparently I'm not the only one to think so.

Regardless, thanks for the help.

No, it can be done only when using classic color for menu highlight, when using an image for menu highlight then only normal color is used. So if you want a nice menu highlight using an image then it can't be done, if you don't mind the default XP look with just a color highlight then you can use different text color on mouse over. This can be any color you want, it is changed as stated in reply 1.
