Suggestion: Autosave at Start of New Game

I often find that I want to play a given random map again, especially after working it out for some time. True, I'll know where everything is, including the AI civs; but especially with bad initial positions, it would be fun to work out how to solve the problem that being at a disadvantage might create.

The problem is that I don't realize this until late in the game. By that time, my autosaves only go back so far; and Control-N gives me an entirely new map, not the same one again. I know that I could do my own save as soon as the map starts, and have started getting in the habit of doing that, just in case.

But would it be possible to have the game automatically save itself at the beginning of the game? A quick "StartGameSave" (similar to the EndGameSave that already happens) would be great. The file would be overwritten by the next new game you start.

Even better would be the ability to use that map as a scenario, and play it with other races. For example, the Combat Mission series permits you to save the randomly generated maps, and use this as the basis for another session, playing any party.

Perhaps this is already possible, and I've missed it. But if not, what do you think?

Thanks,

Alex

Well, the easy way is to quicksave immediately on start, exit the game and go into the saved games directory; rename that quicksave as your "StartGameSave", then load the game up again choosing that as the game to load.

No, the easy way is simply to save the game as 'Game1Start' or whatever and continue playing. Why the extra bother to exit the game and rename a file?

You're both right: either way works, although a named save at the start makes the extra step unnecessary. My problem is that I often don't know that I want to replay a map until some game time has passed.

I guess what I'm really asking for is an option to automate what I could do by myself, saving me an extra step or two. I'm really fine with it the way it is. I rarely use the "EndGameSave" that the program automatically saves (I'm not sure what I could do with it, quite honestly) and I could use an automatic "StartGameSave": that's all.

Thanks for the replies,
