Object Desktop Programs Stall In Installation

Some ObjectDesktop components such as ObjectBar will download but stall during installation. They seem to always stall in the same spot (unique for each program). Trying to cancel them doesn't work and you have to close Stardock Central. For ObjectBar, it stalls at 5% which is the file "German (Germany).lang". This is a new install on a WinXP machine I'm moving to. Any thoughts?

installing via...

disk?
regular dowload?
Stardock Central Browser (SDC)?

SDC works best for me

moving seems to work best using SDC's archive and restore archive functions.

Through regular SDC download. In the past, I've always just installed SDC on a new machine and downloaded all the parts I wanted fresh and then wiped the old machine once I was done with it.

and then wiped the old machine once I was done with it.

this would imply you have not yet wiped

if this is the case, in the old one open sdc, right click a program - choose archive

archives are stored in SDC's 'back up folder' once you have your apps archived copy the back up folder to disk - install SDC on the new - put the disk in, use SDC to restore, browse to the disk

I could but there are a couple of reasons I don't want to do that. First of all is the fact that I'm going from Win2K to WinXP so at least on of the programs that won't install is a completely diffrent version between the two (WindowBlinds) and the other is, I wanted to go with a clean install.

Of course, since the download finishes and the install itself won't even complete, I have to suspect there is a chance even this won't succeed.

I'll double check if any of the versions on the old are the exact same as the new though and perhaps try to move one over just to see if that proves that it is a more general install issue- but that will have to wait until tomorrow.

If I remember correctly the main one to be different for W2k would be WB - I think it shoule be 4.6? (not at home to look and it is in my SDC list) - the version of WB that works on W2K will work on XP it's just that W2K can't handle the 5 version.

On the old machine - you can open SDC, right click on WB5 (if it's showing) and choose a straight download and archive (no install) - that should give you never before installed archive version to carry over.

You can also do that with any of the apps.

so for example - if you had WB 5.1 installed and 5.5 is showing as available, you can right click it and do a straight download/archive

downloading and archiving, then carry over on disk and restore archive should be the same as a clean install - seems it should be no different that a separate download of the app - just packaged different

Huh... Never tried doing that before so I didn't realize you could download straight to an archive. I'll give it a shot and see tomorrow when I'll have a chance to have both machines side-by-side. If it fails in the same place thing it must be something in the install itself.
