Why you should download Gauntlet's Race Mod

-Mod Update

So yeah, I've updated my former minor race mod, its no longer called that, as it now adds race portraits for general use, a total of 40 of them in fact. Thats right 40 high quality race portraits, we have your robots, cyborgs, space monsters, daleks, humans of a couple varieties, and more.

Now that in and of itself is a real good reason to download this mod, the second good reason?

24 total Minor Races. Thats up from the original (10-12)

There are no duplicate races either, each race uses a different pic (and these pics come from the 40 portraits you gain)

There are No game-play modifications.

Well at any rate, I'd appreciate some feedback here if you try the mod, if you notice a glitch or something especially.

I used your last version, and now i'm using this one too.... great work, and it's always good having a new minor popping up.

Hi Gauntlet,

I'd really like to use your mod, but I'm having some difficulty making it work with DA. I've downloaded it, put the files in the Gfx/races folder, and the 'Gauntlet's Race Mod' folder in the mod folder with my other mods, but when I start the game and go to the options page, the mod doesn't show up. Have you any idea as to what I might have done wrong?

well its possible there is a missing file for you... check Gauntlet's Race Mod and make sure there is a mod description XML file... if you still have trouble I can email you a fresh copy or something...

Hi Gauntlet,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. In the 'Gauntlet's Race Mod' file, there's a 'Data' file; in the 'Data' file is an xml. document 'Raceconfig', but nothing else. Should there be anything other than that? I have indeed got all of my mods in the DL folder.

Okay- so it seems that it was missing the ModDescription.xml file.

I am updating the mod to do so, and fixing a naming issue Kyro pointed out that gave some downloaders a problem.

For you, I suggest copying and pasting the Mod Description file from another file, then open it in notepad and change the description text to ... Gauntlet's Race Mod... or whatever you fancy. Then it will work, or you can wait and re-download.

Heya - just downloaded your mod - I have not played in a long time and never did a mod. So - uninformed question - where do I put the files from your mod. Know it is a noobie question but I would like to try this. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Gauntlet - that looks to have solved the problem. Going off to start my game now...(-:

Since I combined several mods together in the default folder, I never had any trouble with it. I must say, I like it, and I enjoy more variety in the minor races. It's especially nice actually having some good minor races. I don't believe the original game had any.

well Im glad you like it, I personally am very proud, mind you other mods have allot more complexity but since there are so many that change gameplay I'm focusing my efforts on things that don't and just Add variety. My current project is a pack of 15 ship styles that the computer wont make ridiculous component sizes on top of.

Anywho-

The readme states the directories you must put stuff in... the DL directory has a folder mods for most of it.

hey gauntlet, can you tell me exactly what you did to add a minor race? I am trying to add a minor and having no luck. I tested by just changing one first, and not only did it not show up in the game, but now none of the minors are showing. Whats going on and what did i do wrong?

SO- Heres an update for anyone who reads my little topic.

The Gauntlet Race Mod 3.0 is under way which will do the following

1. Boost the Minor races from 24 to an even 30!
2. Boost the race portraits from 40 to an even 50!
3. Add 12-15 Ship Styles that Work with the AI's Placement (More or Less)

4. Add 12-15 Major Custom Races for you to use (basically the ones the ships were designed for)

5. Hopefully add 5 or so New Dialogue styles for races to use.

Oh and notably in the new 10 race portraits I'm trying to add at least 3 which are femanine. My concern right now is whether to alter the race customization or not- So far I have resisted making actual game-play changes... the Custom Races I feel should have 20 points not 15, and I would like to incorporate SOME of the race options that for example General Pants mod unlocks... and tweak them a bit.

hmmm

Why not? This would make it more of a full mod, but that's fine. I definitely like having a bunch of new styles to use. If nothing else, they'd be good for custom races.
