Icon Packager Vista 64 Upgrade

Icon Packager Vista 64 Upgrade

Will there be an upgrade path and when? - Bait and Switch

I used OD for years, and having just finished building a new machine I decided to start using icon packager again after having my subscription lapse.

I downloaded the newest Icon Packager (released June 8th according to Download.com). When I tried to install it on my Vista 64bit machine it told me that the public version did not support 64 bit, but the enhanced (read:pay) version did - so I went and bought IconPackager. After it failed to install on my V64bit machine:

"Unable to locate C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_Microsoft.VC80.ATL_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_a08a3e21\ATL80.dll"

I began reading up only to discover that IP is NOT in fact Vista 64 compatible. Unfortunatly that is not what the message said, it simply said the public version was not compatible. This is a little like bait and switch if you as me, seeing as there is no way to actually try a 64 bit version before you buy.

So. Short of demanding my money back - when is the Vista 64 version due (previous posts simply say "soon" or "in the works"? AND will I get it for free. I will wait for the new version if there is a free upgrade for a purchase made today. If not, I'll talk to accounting...

Thanks,

Kevin

It will not work on mine - It causes my system to crash, and has already caused me too much time loss and frustration..

I am a bit dissappointed with this situation. This is not a free service, yet Stardock has yet to release some official, responsible and easy to access, information for their customers/subscribers addressing such compatibility (which of their applications are compatible with vista 64, what are the most common problems and how to deal with them etc).

Not all of here are software developers, but still we all pay the same fee - they should put this info in plain english somewhere in their homepage.

Shame..

There was a beta for 3.20 that worked, but now you can't get it because it's been replaced by 3.99 (aka version 4) which doesn't have x64 support yet.

Stardock support, if 4.0 final takes much longer, please at least re-release 3.20 for us x64 users. 3.99 broke icons on Vista without any way to return to the working setup -- 3.20 worked a lot better.

Vista x64 user as well, recently installed IP and it did a number on all my icons as well. I spent the past 48 hours trying to research a fix to get my icons back. In a last ditch attempt before reformatting, I figured I would contact Customer SUpport to see it I could get a copy that worked if not only to get my icons back. I sent them a lengthy email, and thought what the heck, I will try and install it again, it sure is not going to hurt anything.

Low and behold, they either have a new beta up, or it finally took.
IP did in fact install and run on my Vista x64 Ultimate machine, and all my icons were back in a flash.

Finally...............

Via Impulse on Vista x64 Ultimate Home PC: IP (Installed Beta: 3.99d[b].062)

Screen shots availabe if needed.

I messed with it all last night, and it seems to be very stable........

Edit: Note on work PC this a.m. (WinXP x32) same beta showed up after updating Impulse.

How do you get the latest beta through impulse?

I am now running a later iteration apparently (3.99.146) and experiencing the same problem. Does Stardock have a goal on when this will be fixed?
i dont beleive they do, have uninstalled 3.99.146 and will wait for the 4.0 version to come out.

Have any of you emailed stardock and politely requested a version that works with Vista x64? I did, and maybe that is how I miracuously had a new beta show up for download? Not sure, maybe it was just a coincidence.

Proof, that there is a version that works on Vista x64......

Hope you can get it sorted........

Why don't I see that version. Ah well, i'll have to wait for MyColors x64 then jump back over to x64.

will try it and let you know how i get on.

Daygo, this update and the 065 update that should be showing for you now both work GREAT on both my Vista64 boxes mate, so grab it

Hmmm I just got the latest 065 update and when I hit "run" stil nothing :(

Maybe one of my previous installation wasn't uninstalled completely? Can you guys tell me which files/registry info should I get rid of?

I am using vista x64 sp1. I have disabled UAC, and I have installed stardock programs on a NON-default location (maybe this is the problem? Does it have to be on the C:\Program Files directory?)

thanks

leth,
I'm using SP1 on all 3 of my boxes (2 x64 and 1 x32) and it updated fine for me.

Did you use Impulse or SDC to install the update ?

I always archive my current version (both SDC & Impulse) and then uninstall the application I'm updating. Reboot the PC and use Impulse (or SDC, though I tend to use Impulse exclusively nowadays) to install the application for me. Then, to be on the safe side, after installation is complete I do another reboot before running the application.

Hope this helps mate, if not, make another Post and I'll try to help get it working for you.

Regards,
Peter
