switch to 2nd pc, looses key/mouse

Hi,

am currently using multi 1.2 on 3 pc's. was working fine with no issues until i recently re-installed XP on one of the secondary's. After setting it up when i try to move to that PC i lose keyboard/mouse. I have to use a hotkey to switch back to the primary.

The other secondary PC is working fine. I have tried uninstalling on all machines and re-installing to no avail. Also of note, if i setup the secondary pc as a primary, it can control the other 2 pc's including the primary. its weird.

thanks in advance.

Forgot to mention, all pc's are running XP SP2. have a G15 keyboard and G7 mouse controlling them.

Is there a file called MPVista.exe running on that pc that has the problem?

If so, how many copies?

Also do you have any antispyware applications on that PC (they are well known for blocking some installations and not telling the user)

Hi,

No proc's called mpvista running. Have disabled Windows defender and AVG antivirus. Problem still persists.

You would need to reinstall MP if an application blocked the original install of MP.

Have re-installed on all 3 pc's even though the 2nd secondary PC has no issues.

As i said in original email. When going from the primary to the secondary it looses keyboard and mouse. Hotkey is the only way to get back to the primary. This does not happen on the other secondary.

When i configure the troublesome secondary to be the primary controlling the other 2 PC's it works no problem. between all 3.

My configuration worked like a charm until i re-installed XP on the troublesome secondary.
I have even un-installed and cleaned registry of all references to stardock, multiplicity and the executables on all PC's to no avail. If i have to i will rebuild my primary which i am sure is the problem, however i dont really want to do this just to resolve some idiosyncracy with stardock.

Ironically, I also had this same problem occur, starting today. It's been working like a champ - was playing WoW with it last night. Went to play this morning, and all of a sudden I can't get control off my secondary PC. It works fine for a couple of seconds, then the mouse starts hitching, and all of a sudden I can't get back to the primary PC.

Actually, when I don't lose my mouse altogether, and I am typing, what will sometimes occur is that all of a sudden my pointer will switch back to my primary machine (on the far side of the screen away from the secondary), and then when I drag the pointer back to the secondary, the last key I had typed a few seconds previous gets put into the right position. After I mess with it for a bit trying to type on the secondary and keep moving the mouse over there, the mouse becomes "stuck" on the secondary's screen. I can then type and all that on the secondary, but can't get back to the primary.

Yep, noticed that too, ive just upgraded to 1.2pro and thought it was a problem with that. 1.1 public was awesome, absolutely flawless. Now i got pointers switching back on their own whim, alt keys getting stuck and one of my secondaries that are unusable.

Yes, I noticed the problem in WoW. Then I went back to my desktop, and noticed that the problem was on my desktop, too.

In looking at it further, it appears that my multiplicity connection to my secondary machine keeps turning on and off (it'll be on for several seconds, then turn off for a moment, then turn on for several seconds). I'm talking about the little red / green icon turns 'black' (disconnected).

I updated to 1.2 tonight after reading in the forums and noticed that it was just released. There has been no change.

Well, I messed with it a bit more, and switched my network cable from jack #1 to jack #2, and that fixed it. I'd checked that the cable was plugged in all the way on jack #1, and I wasn't getting a 'network disconnected' status on the secondary machine, so I don't know that that was necessarily the problem, but since jack #2 had a different IP address and everything it is working fine again (so long as I leave it on jack #2).

seems our issues are not related then. Nothing wrong with the nic's on my pc's. Have checked status and they havent dropped connections since i booted them last.

Im wondering now, that since the problem arised when i re-installed XP on the problem machine, that Multi keeps some kind of cache locally on the primary tied to a mac address maybe. Can the dev's help out with this one?

Maybe I wasn't clear. The actual network connection hadn't dropped, but watching the "Multiplicity Tray Icon" on the primary computer I could see that Multiplicity kept dropping connections. The actual network status of the secondary machine showed a steady connection, and I wasn't experiencing weird latency issues in WoW, either, which I would have if my NIC had been dropping connections.

Here's the weird thing: I used to use a laptop for a very long time w/ Multiplicity. about 2 weeks ago I built up a 2nd desktop, and moved the laptop over to my wife's desk, and have had it disconnected for a while. Yesterday my desktop got the same IP address that my laptop had a few weeks ago, but my laptop is still offline. I don't know what my desktop's old IP address was from a few weeks ago, but yesterday it was the same IP as the laptop had had. I had disconnected the secondary machine early yesterday to plug it directly to my internet connection to check something out on the internet, and then when I plugged it back into my firewall, it got the IP address that the laptop used to have. I went through the connection wizard again and my primary connected to it, but it would keep dropping Multiplicity connections (not NIC connections). After switching it to the other NIC, it got a completely different IP, and it has been working fine ever since last night.

So I think it's more bound to IP than to MAC, since the MAC would have been the same regardless of IP. But it does seem to indicate that *something* is kept around. The laptop has STILL not been turned on, so that couldn't be conflicting.

I am having the same problem! I switch to the second computer and then I find the mouse, all of the sudden back at the first computer in the top right corner! This is very frustrating as I rely upon this software and have used this for the past few years without any issues.
PLEASE FIX THIS THINKDESK!!!
Thanks.

shizznit, posting the same thing on multiple threads won't get the problems solved faster.

Emailing support@stardock.com will initiate an official case (opposed to a request for help on the community forums).

Give that a shot, OK?
