not paying $20

not paying $20

Is there any way to do this without paying $20? Are there any other ways, something similar, that's free?

Get off the computer if you want free.....go for a walk...it's free....everybody want's somebody to do something for them for free...screw you.

Very well said Boss, I couldn't have said it better myself

So I guess every one that is on wincustomize looking for free walls.themes,WB and all the rest of the free stuff should as YOU say get off the computer. And I'm sure that both of you pay for every thing you get off of the internet.

I agree that the tone of this discussion did get a little "dark" and I'm as much at fault for this as anyone else and that's why included that little bit at the end of my reply above saying that if the request was legitimate in a search for a freeware alternative then I was wrong for assuming otherwise. The title of the post is what threw me for a loop, "not paying $20", I assumed (assuming made an a$$ out of me on more than one occasion) after reading the title that the user was looking for a way of obtaining object desktop or windowblinds for free. It's a bit of bold title to start a post with and he obtained responses accordingly. I apologize for my previous statements if they came off sounding rude.

I read the original post not as a request for warez copies, but for free alternatives, which is perfectly acceptable.  However, I doubt the original poster will be returning to the thread to further clarify.

Please don't jump to conclusions, the result is usually rather unpleasant.

Agreed Zoomba also we need to keep in mind that the reason some of these questions seem vague could possibly be someone who's first language is not English.

To answer the actual question. No, there is no equivalent freeware. You can come close by piecing various programs together but, that's really only maybe 50% there. The only freeware program that "applies" skins is Styler which is no longer under development or supported.

to answer the OP:
there are many ways to customize your desktop for free... but they are more involved and typically not as complete. some are even detrimental to the health of your PC..stardock has built the simplest and most complete todate way to customize all aspects of a desktop. but it will cost you....as others have stated you get what you pay for....

now if you were refering to obtaining stardock programs freely??? then no. and you will get no help here ...the folks here are loyal to stardock as we feel we have been treated fairly and got what we paid for. I sugest you spend the $$ and join a great community...

I appologize for those who jumped the gun without fully thinking it through....we really are a fun group and the community is unsurpassed even tho some times we dont always put our best foot forward

I might have leaned that way if the post had been under general customization instead of Object Desktop. (and yes, I've been told I'm too literal most of the time)

it was aimed at anybody who behaves badly when not fully appreciating the depth of what they read or anybody who chooses to be abusive even tho they do... if you fall within these lines, then by all means read in to it what you will.....

i guess asking "if theres free alternatives" is the end of life as we know it??? i guess i shouldnt mention about XnView or the other hundreds of free programs to you then... ya may explode...

Actually... If it makes you feel any better, (and if you ever come back to read replies) I paid $50 for the Object Desktop suite and have had parts installed on my desktop and laptop machines for less than 24 hours... And I felt like I'd gotten my money's worth within the first few minutes.

The sheer tonnage of stuff you get for membership here is just... ridiculous. Geek for the Jackson and enjoy the rewarding feeling of money well spent.
