Objects working in builder but not as widgets!

Yeah, yet another problem!
Basically, there are three things in my widgets that work perfectly in DesktopX Builder, but then fail to work at all if I load them as widgets on my desktop.
The first 2 are the taskbar and systray (I'm just using desktopX's basic 'object type' for these). They work great in the builder, but as soon as I export, they just don't show. Yes, I have the mcp running - sdmcp.exe is running in my processes, and this is still happening after numerous restarts.
The other thing is a gmail checker, which I've made by editing the aero gmail checker (I'm not uploading it or anything, it's just for my own use). Again, this works great in the builder, instantly picking up on a change in my inbox, but if I load the widget, the counter stats and stays at 0 no matter what.
Any ideas why these things would work in builder but not in practice?
