Vista x64 compatability

Hello, I'm currently using reg. Objectdock 1.9 with Vista x64. First time using it, great product. I'd really like to depend totally on the dock and get rid of my task bar but I would need access to the start menu and my tray icons (tray icons are available in the plus version , as I understand it). This is a problem in that the start menu is not functional with x64, so I have a couple of questions;

*To get a functioning start menu, will Objectdock need to be recompiled for x64 systems, or is it possible to create just a new docklet for the existing Objectdock that can access the start menu?

*I'm assuming the tray icon features of Objectdock plus also won't run on an x64 platform (the taskbar functionality seems similar to me). Could someone confirm whether this is true or not? If the tray icons worked and I had a shutdown docklet I wouldn't really need the start menu I suppose.

*If it is necessary to create a dedicated x64 version of Objectdock, is this being actively worked on? When trying to use the start menu it said 64bit functionality would be included in a future release, but it didn't exactly sound like promise.

Zgibbs: ObjectDock itself doesn't need to be x64 for this all to happen, but, each of the modules need to be made compatible, and a bridge needs to be created so that the two can communicate effectivly. I can indeed promise that we will be doing both start menu and system tray functionality in x64

You can use XP SP2 Start Menu docklet which you can download from this site instead of standard start menu function. It's quite good works on Vista X64, however, it does not appear where your start menu icon is, instead, it does appear exactly your taskbar start menu location.

Tray icon is my headache No.1 as yours.
I try all (it's just 2 docklet you can find in this site) but no luck.

I really want to know ETA of x64 support.

As an aside . . just because he's not active in the forums does not mean he is away.

Bug reports are fed to him through support.

Of course there was invisible subtext there that says "...back (on the forums)!!!" ;)

And it looks like those bugs are all you're feeding him. No wonder OD+ has been starved :P of stable updates :D Perhaps you should try switching from insects to real food, I heard pizza's good :D

Vista x64 user here. I too would love to see full support for 64 bit. Native 64 bit would be even better.

I run Vista Ultimate x64 and have absolutely perfect performance with ObjectDock+. When I first started running Vista x64, I had these same issues, however I downloaded an update for OD+ through Impulse--Stardock's new app management program.

Try installing impulse, then check for updates. You should be good. ;)

That doesnt help with missing (only under vista64) features such as system tray and startmenu.

Maybe I did not clarify myself: When I first upgraded to Vista Ultimate x64, my system tray and start menu did not work. I then downloaded Impulse and updated OD+ through Impulse. It was after this that everything ran smoothly.

You need to get Impulse and use it to update ObjectDock Plus. This was the only solution i found when I had the same problem you are experiencing.

Hm everytime i start up the update over Impulse i get the message: invalid download, please try again.

Any suggestion how i could download the update ?

I downloaded Impulse installed it and had it download and intall the update for OD+ and I am still lacking support for System Tray and Start Menu functionality under Vista Ultimate x64. I get the Dialog box stating. "Showing the start menu from ObjectDock is not currently available for 64-bit versions of Windows. This feature will be added in a future release - Thank you for your patience."

Impulse lists the installed version at 1.90.033 and no other updates are listed for OD+ under the Updates tab.

So I guess the question is exactly what version do you have that is allowing you Start Menu and System Tray functionality under Vista x64? If it is the same ver as what I downloaded and you downloaded it through impulse then why am I still lacking the fuctionality? If it is a different or newer version why is it not available on impulse?

Do you have the show beta-version checked? In Impulse right-click on the blue Stardock-logo. I have OD+ beta 1.91k[a].025 (4/8/2008).

Hey when are you going to make the start Icon available in Vista X64. I have a Vista Install that has played real well with Windows Blinds and Stardock and would still love to lose the taskbar altogether but the product i purchased is not fit for its intended purpose. in Australia if a product is not fit for its intended purpose a refund is forthcoming.

Sincerely

This is good advice, topix.

Also, after updating through Impulse, you may consider restarting your computer. I don't know what else to say... I had the same problem, now I don't. The only thing I did was to update through Impulse.

Try following topix's advice from reply #18 and update again.
