This is really funny. Have any of you ever walked into a room full of children and found something broken, and you ask the simple question who did this? Only all you hear for an answer is “not me, not me!” Well, that wasn’t the question was it?! Pretty irritating too isn’t it!

I posted this discussion and the question is what happened to the screen shot of the day? And folks the question was never answered. Instead it became a rant about what’s irritating, what I would whack if it were up to me, chapped hides, confusion and reiterations. But still, the question was never answered!

I am not a skinner, artist or designer, but I am a subscriber and have been a member since 2003. Ladies and gentlemen for some of us, which would be the majority of the WC community, screen shots is all we’ll ever do, and it’s all we’ll ever have!

So when you say “do away with the shots if it were up to you” (and I guess we should thank the almighty that it’s not), is a direct insult to non talented and non gifted people such as myself and that is a bad idea for good business.

I pride myself on my screen shots and if you never seen one, then maybe it’s about time that you should. And I do full descriptions and entail not only the intricacies involved but also information that you might not even know about!

I comply with all the standards of the community with respect, pride, class, honor and dignity. Actually I do screen shots mostly because it’s fun. But it looks like judging screen shots is according to someone’s mood, whether it’s a good one or bad.

Case in point, I put up a shot and got two and a half stars for my effort. It was a beautiful shot and I felt that two and a half stars was an insult towards my effort. So I immediately took the shot down, gave it a different name, reposted it and guess what? The same shot with another name got 3 stars! So I would say that’s pretty darned moody, wouldn’t you? Now personally I would hate to think that I am actually being victimized like this, but that’s how I feel about how shots are judged.

With that being said, I will say this slowly so someone with the answer might see this and I’ll try to keep it simple.

What happened to the screen shot of the day? How long do we have to endure the same fish on the iphone shot again? Who makes these decisions? Has the format changed? Is it still screen shot of the day, of the week, a month, a year, how about a decade? Someone please just answer the question so we all will know what happened to it. There have been only 3 maybe 4 screen shots of the day this year and it’s April, that's approximately 116 missing daily shots to the date! That’s what we want to know. And if you changed it, then call it what it is and change the gallery page to reflect it. “Screen shot of the Quarter.” “Screen Shot of the Fortnight.” Or what ever you changed it to. But we all will know.

Professionally speaking I am a System Administrator for Kaiser Permanente Consolidated Pharmaceutical Production here in California and I’ve learned in my 17 years of computing to never look down on someone that’s trying their god given best, but for those who judge you, it sometimes isn't good enough!

So I would appreciate a straight answer to my question without the disclaimers or insults.

I'm all for screen shots. Anything that gets people involved is a positive. Having said that I've looked into that section less than a dozen times in more than 5 years. To each his own.

There is a definite decrease in the amount of people who upload screenshots, those who comment and the screenshot of the day. I as well spend less time creating & uploading screenshots or commenting on them. Real life gets in the way for any number of reasons.

But it is an important part of Wincustomize, to allow users the opportunity to contribute to the site & show the skinners that their work is being used & appreciated.

It's been 3 days now and so far it appears that the only
feed back from someone with any power to make a change is
Zubaz ,,,, and he is clearly not in favor of the Screenshot
as it is . But does he speak for all of management ?

Would love to hear from Frogboy at this point as too what
the future of Screenshots is as it pertains too WC's future plans ?

I think 32 posts on this subject warrant a response from Brad
as it is he who would probably make all final decisions as to what will happen .

Say what you will but a percentage of Stardocks business is the
Screenshot family and what business could afford to loose any percentage
of Business in these days and times ?

I make more than just SS's here that get me many more downloads than
screenies do but have little if any contact with those poeple . All of my
friend here have come from the Screenshot members and they have made the site FUN !

One thing I hear over and over is WC priding itself on it being a site of family .
Well the SS members are part of that family are we not ? and as such should get the
same respect as any other member here - most of us will never be good enough to reach
Wiz-op / Wizard or whatever the elite status is called so Screenshots will be it .

So what the heck give the screenie people their due too ,what could it hurt ?

So back again to the original Question ? ....... my other 2 cents worth !

You just purchased a spanking brand new car off the showroom floor! It's the car of your dreams and you finally got it! You are ecstatic! You purchased the 7 year bumper to bumper warranty which covers everything down to your brand new high performance tires!

One week after you bought your new dream machine the engine starts to ping really loud. The noise is so loud that it sounds like the car is going to blow up and it’s embarrassing! So you rush it back to the dealer, only it’s not the dealer you’re dealing with any more, it’s the service center.

So you take your brand new car to the Chief Mechanic and you tell him everything that’s going on with your new baby! And you ask him practically begging to him why is this happening to your brand new car?

He looks at you for a hot second then tells you “well, that shouldn’t happen!” Then he turns his nose up and walks off without saying another word, end of conversation!

How did that make you feel?

Two lessons to learn from this is, 1. Don’t force people to live by standards that you yourself wouldn’t or couldn’t live by. 2. Your question was never answered, but you did get a resounding disclaimer out of the deal.

Oh and by the way, your car was never fixed and the payment is still due!

Hey guys I'm not all jokes. I think they don't believe that screen shots play an important enough part at Wincustomize and Stardock to merit any attention. Screen shots were brought up late last year as they were testing the waters for the new site and those with influence pushed screen shots down in importance. If they were important to skinners they would be featured that's obvious. So, the question is are there enough paying customers who like screen shots and are there enough visitors who like screen shots and apparently the answer is no. I'm with you Cplair on the screen shot of the day it's handing has been irksome.

Just becuase you are not seeing a response here on your timeline does not mean that things are not happening.
And just because a feature isn't my bag doesn't mean I won't try to get it resolved for the community.

As an aside, Brad's a busy guy.  I love when he gets in the weeds with us but I don't expect or demand it.  That there is crazy talk.

This is not a demand for anything Sir Zubaz! We just won't go away!

If you and the other Admins feel that our behavior here is inappropriate, with all due respect that is not by any means our intention Sir.

We that you see here designers and screen shooters alike love WC and we're asking a question.

How long would you wait for a simple straight answer to a question that's important to you?

CP..I answered your question in post #2.....if you were just asking what happened to the Screen shot of the day......Its just no longer on the front page. You have to click on the " Gallery" tab at top of page next to " Home " and scroll to pretty much the bottom..

If your asking " What happened" as in why is shot not changed routinely anymore , then yes, your question wasn't answered. But I think its probably not changed because no one can see it hidden on gallery page at the bottom and even moderators forget about it.

I'm betting that plenty do check out the screen shots.

I've seen adni18 comment on screen shots that have featured his blinds , walls etc.

Im sure hes not the only one...

Ms Fairry~ I appreciate you much for your support on this. However "Screen Shot of the Day" is not what it use to be. One shot is displayed for days upon weeks turning into a month or so and that's the question!

A daily shot should be changed (key word) daily should it not! Back in the day that's what was happening.

And if it has or was indeed changed to screen shot of the month or what ever, then the site page title for this should reflect as such.

So basically that's all we're wondering about!

And I do check there every day just to enjoy the different flavors and interpretations.

You see more great combinations of everything WC has to offer in the screen shot gallery than any where else on the site. And the shot of the day is suppose to exemplify the best of the best choice for that day. At least back in the day it did.

You have veterans like JM Speakman, BigDogBigFeet and Chasbo still cranking amazing shots and you have rising stars in the making like Shenaynay, Philly0381 and Longdude0 that are putting out fantastic work.

Changing the shot daily would give everyone who does a screenie a chance to feel that acknowledgment for their efforts. And not just from their peers, but the artists and designers (such as yourself)come in and see there work being utilized the way it was designed for and they do give up the props too!

And for a person that can only do a screen shot such as myself, it means the world to them and pushes them to try harder!

I understand that you want to know what happened to the Screenshot of the day.  Why not just go to the gallery and pick one?  https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?libid=13 What service are you missing that you can't do for yourself. 

I do get that the feature is not working as well as you would like . . but other than having someone pick what they think is best, what are you gaining.

And as I said in reply 36, just because you don't see any action doesn't mean none is being taken.

I advocate people standing up and speaking their mind, but I also advocate restraint and patience.  I'm here and listening to what you have to say.  Have some faith.  OK?

Wonder what happened to this? The current "Screen Shot Of The Day" has been up for a month.
If this is the norm, the title should be changed to "Screen Shot Of the Month".

Seems to have been 'forgotten'. Perhaps a 'Screenshot of the Week' would be a good compromise  :NOTSURE: 

It would seem that the more one tries to push for returning it to a different shot each day the longer the current one stays up. I get the feeling that it's a matter of showing who's the boss. Let them eat cake. Basically it's B U L L S H I T. Nice response to the "community" Brad!

It was decided this year with all the contributions flooding the Moderators that Screen Shots will have to take a lesser priority.

I'm mean it's obvious to us because we loved the daily variety and basically anyone that made a BOMB ass shot had a chance to be recognized. I'm pissed too for that matter and it's why I made this post months ago.

But...

We also have to realize this, all of the components that come through here has to be scrutinized for a great many things, authentication, integrity, usage and so on. That's a lot of work and quite frankly Screen Shots has to take a back seat.

I understand this as the reason and not to insult or diminish Screen Shots as less than any other community contribution.

This sucks because all I do is screen shots, but it is what it is for now. And if we relax and let our voices be heard in forums like these, then hopefully it'll get better for the Shooters!

Also remember this folks, this site isn't a year old yet, these people at WC have been real busy from the daily flow that I see.

Now imagine trying to moderate a flood of screen shots having not only to analyze every aspect, but also duplicating them. Hell it would be a day-long chore trying to sift through AzDude's submissions alone when he's on a roll!

I know all we can do is be patient, it's been eight months since posting this, but look at all what’s happened to this site in that time, I do and that's why I'm not angry any more.

Maybe electing a dedicated Screen Shot moderator(s) would be the solution but could you moderate screen shots every day and fairly select the best one? For a community with three million members, that's a full-time job.

So do I like it, no. Do I understand, yes.

Sooner or later we'll get an answer.

on a side note:
I have reduced my library in the SS section to IMO my best of the best as not to eat up space. While I enjoy contributing SS, I try to take away as little resources from the site as possible and leave it for the Skinners to utilize...
