system crashes when WB 5.5 is installed.

I was running WB 5.5 just fine with this system until I replaced a bad vid card with a new card of the same model and maufacturer. (BFG 128 geforce 6800 oc) The only other new program on my system is spy sweeper from webroot. Now whenever,I install and try to run WB the whole system starts to hang until I get an error caused by a component of my nvidia drivers. The system will then restart without applying winblinds though it shows on the task bar as running. If I try to unload and reload winblinds the system will crash. upon restarting my active desktop will be gone and winblinds will not be loaded. I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and winblinds. making sure to clean all temp files and registry entries,before reinstall.

webroot claims to have no knowledge of any conflicts with WB.

win XP sp2 on an asus a7v333 athlon2000+ 1 gig of ram, all MS certified video and sound drivers

Does the message say the video hardware stopped responding?

If so that may be a sign of faulty hardware.

Thanks for the responses It took me awhile to get back because my whole system became unstable. I think I solved it by uninstalling and reinstalling the via drivers. I remembered that when I installed the new vid card I upgraded the via 4in1 4.43 with the new via hyperion package I guess my mobo did not like the new via drivers. I also installed a new hard drive.

Bichur, yeah I have the latest drivers.  

Neil, yes actually windows logged an error of an atapi device timing out at device ide 0 (which I believe to be my hard drive.)

wolfs, yes the system would also destabilze until it froze when I played several games i.e. Quake3 ut2k4,Savage etc..


I'm hoping the problem won't resurface,because I'm about to install winblinds now.

Eureka!   

Windowblinds installed and applied smoothly without a hitch. Thx for the input I truly appreciate it. I really did not want to go long without the Wblinds.
