System tray Icon fun

Hi. I've successfully made my first real gadget. Its a notifier for the site www.zorpia.com and interacts with an API there, to tell memebers when they have new messages or responses.
It runs as a system tray item.
I would love to make the system tray icon flash or animate or something when there are new messages. I accept this may not be possible, but wondered. Any ideas?
