I don't like to buld ships...

I tried to like GalCiv2 but couldn't get past that you had to build your own ships to compete. I would prefer that they have a good sortment of ships to use without building any. Does the expansion offer this? Is there a way to play without ship building and it be fair against the AI? Does anyone play without ship building?

I posted this once already so if it repeats I'm sorry for I didn't see it on the forums.

? after you research certain things there are already ships to build I only build ships when I haven't progressed ednough to build say an overlord or the likes and sometimes build ships to get a lot of Hit points but build without engins to get a cheap 50hp ship to guard a planet

you can use the core ships just upgrade their weapons shields and engines and rename them the simpliest way is to add a number behind the name of the core ship or if you want you can download ship designs out of the library

If I use the core ships only will the AI build ships or use the core ships?

The AI designs their own ships based on the techs they have researched.

Core ships will never be good enough. You really need to design your own if you want to compete. If you don't, you will never have the optimum weapons or defenses against the AI ships.

the ai doesn't even know what the core ships are so no they don't use the core ships

but the only real difference between core and non core is the number of weapons, engines and shields. and you can simple use the core ships as templetes for your non core ships

Ok thanks for the replies. From what I read here the game design was that you need to build core ships to compete. I don't know why but I just don't like to do this. I would prefer that all the ships were already in the game. I guess this game is just not for me thanks...

You need to have the specific technology to be able to build certain ships, but you can also create ships to be used in future games by saving their templates.

Lets say you design a ship called "Stinger" which requires Singularity Driver II and Durantium Armor. It will then pop up in the list when you have researched your appropriate tech.

You can also win a game without building a single military ship as well.

I would guess that he just doesn't want to spend the time building it. If that is the case, you can just pick a starting hull and then double click add the items you want. It would take maybe 2 minutes, though it would be an ugly as sin ship.

That's all I do. I don't make them pretty, I just put on what I want and go. I've got an empire to run after all ha ha.
