Anyone else have a prob with skin sounds?

I've had this ever since any 5.5 beta where I can't disable skin sounds, keeps re-ticking itself. Am I the only one? I thought I or someone else had posted about it sometime but I can't find anything. It doesn't matter having sounds disabled in control panel, mine are always disabled anyway. Can someone help, is it a known bug already? I have the newest 5.5 build.

I had to just delete the little offending wav file out of whatever skin folder, that's all I can do..

Same problem with my WB 5.5 Enhanced. How do u delete the files in the skin, do I need skin studio? What I tried was changing the extension of the skin to zip, then deleting the files, then renaming it back, but that makes the skin to not load properly. Any suggestions? Thanks

try installing the skin..then go to its folder and deleting .wav files...shouldnt affect loading the skin

or open skinstudio and undo the enable button sounds for non perpixel frame buttons.

So, I finally figured out how to disable the sounds when nothing else worked, thanks Caven 1 for the initial idea that helped an amateur like me.
For anyone else who still has same problem, here is what I did:
Download free Skin Studio 6.0 from Stardock site; open the skin (make sure you have it backed up), select 'Edit Titlebars and WindowFrames' from the left panel, from the menu that appears select 'Edit UIS2 Frames', from the pop up menu select 'Titlebar buttons', on the middle bottom part go through the buttons one by one selecting them, then 'Actions'/Sounds/NoSound; you have to do this for each button that has a sound attached, at the end save the skin (preferably with another name) and apply it.
Have a nice day!

I have the opposite problem.. I can't get my theme sounds to turn ON. I have the "Play sounds defined by skins (if any)" box checked, hit "apply changes" and nothing happens. If I close WB and then re-open, that little box unchecks itself!

What version of WB?
What skin?

WB Version 6.02 (build 44x86)

ALL skins that have sounds have this problem

Post a link to a skin that you think has sound so I can test.  :)

Here you go -- WWW Link

I know this one has sound because it works FINE on my laptop at home, but it's not working on the desktop at my office. Both computers run WinXP Pro, same version of WB.

Can you post the system info of your work WB?  Seems odd that if everything is the same it fails on one system.

Did sounds function at some point on your work PC?

It appears to be a WB issue... because I am having this problem with ALL of the skins:

I check the box that says "Play sounds defined by skins (if any)" box checked, hit "apply changes" and nothing happens.

HOWEVER, if I close WB and then re-open, that little box has un-checked tself!

I can't tell you if they ever worked on this PC... I only noticed it when they worked on my laptop at home when I installed the same skin and it had sounds there but not here.

I just ran the skin in Vista and XP and the sounds worked fine. (Although Vista hated parts of that skin ;))

Your file dates look fine too.

So we wait for other input or you can email support@stardock.com

{Just to cover all bases . . other sounds for other apps are working, right?}

Same issue here.

Unchecking the box so as not to have skin sounds doesn't 'stick'. It rechecks itself.

JTOMalley along with what Zubaz just asked, by chance do have Sound Packager downloaded? If so, does it work? Do have any other 3rd party software loaded that could be effecting sounds? Just a couple of other thoughts.
Yes, my regular Windows sounds all seem to be working perfectly.
I do not have SoundPackager installed. I don't believe I have it on my laptop either. No other 3rd party software that has any affect on my Windows sounds -- and they're all working normally. I checked the skin's file folder and all of the associated .WAV files for the skin are there, and do play on their own.

JTOMalley so that you would have another test to go by I also downloaded the skin, don't know how I didn't already have that one, it's nice. Now the bad news, the sounds for the skin worked for me. I'm on an XP 32bit system, I have Sound Packager installed and have WB6 with most recent updates. So It would appear that something somewheres is the problem, as if you hadn't figured that out.

I would say it's time, if you haven't yet, to email support@stardock.com. Give them a link to this post so they will have an understanding to your problem.

Sorry I can offer up any ideas. Well there is one, the computer at work is it a stand alone or is it on a office network? Not sure how that might affect things.

Yeah, it's a stumper. What really gets me is that my WB un-checks that box all by itself. I don't get it.

Both computers are networked through my office, so that's not it.
