UFO : Afterlights

Put your comments

Hell's bell. I discovered the great game XCOM : Ennemy Unknown (a.k.a. UFO) about 3 weeks ago, played it a lot, and they just have launched another sequel, known as UFO Afterlight.

Haven't played it myself, but I intend to buy it soon. Post your comments about this game here.

Okay, first of all UFO: Afterlight is *not* any sort of sequel to XCom.
The XCom games were UFO: Enemy Unknown (also called XCom: UFO Defense), XCom: Terror from the Deep and XCom: Apocalypse.
All are great and you should check them out if you can find them.

Afterlight comes from it's own series, UFO: Aftermath, UFO: Aftershock and UFO: Afterlight. They have nothing to do with XCom, though they are styled after it.

As for Afterlight itself.. it's a decent game, and does follow the spirit of XCom up to a point.. but it's let down by the fact that there's far too many battles you have to get involved in, your territory is invaded all the time. Which wouldn't be too much of a hassle except.. you can't recruit soldiers. You get a set amount of soldiers, with a few more joining now and then. But that's it. If they die.. they're gone. No replacements. Ever. And they *will* die.
That's why though I like Afterlight, I can't recommend it. It's a frustrating game of attrition where you're the one who'll eventually lose.

Its definetly best UFO:After**** game thats for sure. Did not like the previous two After games but this third one rocks. I agree that there are too many battles, but .. wait for it .. There are MODS to take care of the excessive fighting

Also when you look at the UFO:AL forums modding section there is a sticky for Total Rebalance mod. Ill be finishing my first UFO:AL game soon and I think Ill give the Total Rebalance mod a try.

To sum it up, the game has really tedious UI, but once you got the hang of it, the game itself is really good. I recomend it whole heartly.
