PROBLEM SOLVED - PLEASE DELETE

I've recently been building a media control into my objectbar, which is going well, but I'm really pretty novice when it comes to this sort of thing, so mostly I've been pilfering from various sources.

The one thing I can't seem to do, however, is insert a 'now playing' bar that will show the current song in winamp. I found one, a desktopx widget, but couldn't get it to work when inserted into the bar.

Can anyone help me on any level here - advice on how to build my own, suggestions on where to find one, even help out and create one for me (yeah, right)?

Thanks a lot,
Alex

You can use the DX Player plugin.

Add the plugin element.
Choose change plugin and set it to DX player
Click the big Configure plugin button
Check the first box and then select "text display" in the drop-down
The clip name should be selected.
Click the User preference button along teh bottom to set the player to WinAmp.
OK all the way out and you should be good.

You can get more information about creating and skinning Object bars here.

Have fun!

[EDIT: you can also embed a DX widget that has all this done for you too.  Just download the widget, add a DX Widget element and browse to the media player you downloaded.]

That sounds handy, but when I try to add a plugin the browser list is empty - where can I get the dx player?

\no matter, I got it!

Working great, thanks!#

It's a shame I can't have it display the duration AND the clip title though. Even if I go on the 'shift' column, you can't have another text display.

Just add another plugin and set it for duration.

Yeah, that's what I'll do, but that'll take up more room on the bar.. Nevermind!

Okay, so I got the now playing text working, but when I shutdown my laptop, then boot up again, the dxplayer plugin has reverted to defaults (ie, nothing) and I have to reconfigure it every time. Any ideas about this? I make sure I save the bar after I make any changes, so I don't know why it keeps doing this.

I was actually testing and found the same thing.

Any ideas how to work around it Zu? It'll really kill the project if this is a dead end

Me?  I'd find a DX widget that does what I want (or make my own more likely) and then embed it in my OB bar.
The DX plugin for media player works the same way the OB plugin does but I know it works.

If anyone can point me to a tutorial for building this kind of widget, I'd be most grateful.
