AI intensive Algorithms

I have a question about the option to allow AI intensive algorithms. I am assuming that this has the potential to slow your computer down, but does it make the AI smarter?

I have never checked it when playing a game. I was curious if I was making a mistake by not doing it. What affect does it have?

If you're playing Dread Lords, the effect is fairly small. For the most part, it just lets the AI design ships more frequently (so it adapts faster and fields new technology more quickly).

In DA, the CPU-intensive algorithms are much more extensive in scope, but if you don't have a dual-core CPU, it still just means you'll have to wait a small bit longer after you click the Turn button. If you have a dual core CPU, the AI will do its plotting while you play and you shouldn't notice any extra wait at all.

Scary!

I always wondered just what it was capable of doing with the enhanced options on - like just how much smarter is it?

The AI is multithreaded in either case.  But the key is that on dual core machines, threads run much better.

If the option is selected, in Dark Avatar, much more intense algorithms for doing coordinated, multi-turn strategies are put together.

Even Scarier!

Must get a dual-core CPU!

the AI doesn't plan multiple turns without a dual core processor? i thought kryo just said it works without one, but takes longer...

So it does work with both, just faster on Dual-Core machines.

I am assuming that this is the case because it is Dark Avatar and it would work with either type of machine. Just faster with the Dual-Core.

I would give that a while myself - just too damn scary
