Fleet management tab, or is there a better way . . .

that I don't know about?

I'm having a little trouble managing fleets/ships. Am I missing something, or is the game? Just keeping track of which planets have which ships orbiting them seems very laborious. I've searched for and found a previous post from November talking about this. No good answers, so I'm casting again.

Why not have a management tab next to colony management (which is hugely useful, btw) listing all the planets, with the ships in orbit stacked up next to it. That tab would allow you to upgrade, launch, destroy, whatever. I would kill for that. I think Civ IV had something similar . . .

When I get to a point where I want to mobilize to create a fleet and kick someone's alien posterior, it seems like a hopeless clickfest to gather my forces . . .

Any answers/ideas?

You can just click on the Planets Button at the bottom of the main screen. The list of planets there also shows an icon for each planet with orbiting ships. Clicking on the entry centers you on the planet in the main screen, and then you can just click the Launch button at the bottom of the screen.

I sometimes "park" ships in orbit while I wait for them to recover hitpoints. I almost never leave defensive forces in orbit, but if I did I imagine that finding my repaired front line ships (or ships that were built but accidentally not launched) would get to be a nightmare on larger maps.

I wish the game could automatically Launch ships when they reached full hitpoints.
