Object bar connection to Microsoft

I just installed a firewall and the first thing it reported was ObjectBar was trying to connect to address 207.46.198.30 which it turns out is Microsoft. Why would this happen?

Thanks

What elements do you have running?
What bar are you running?
There are many components that could be connecting.

It looks like the clock, a DesktopX Widgets (Silica Weather), CPU Meter, Memory Meter, 'C' and 'D' Hard Drive Meters.

Thanks

I'm not sure in this case, obviously, but the most reliable method for an app/widget to check if an Internet connection is available is to actually make a Web request and see whether it works. The app does this by attempting to connect to a server garanteed to be up 24/7, such as microsoft.com, google.com, apple.com, etc... Once the app establishes it's connected, it can then proceed to do all its other Internet business such as retrieving weather info, etc...

I bet this is what's happening in your case. Either that or Stardock and Microsoft have joined forces to take over your PC.

I think the weather widget checks the internet connection.

No doubt the weather widget is going to phone home to get weather updates, it was just strange to contact the Microsoft page.

Thanks for your help.

I agree. Stardock and MS are teaming up to take over the world, one bored Windows user at a time...
