Uninstalled the game through Control Panel, big mistake?

Need to re-install the game... there may be trouble.

It never entered my mind to use the StarDock program that came with the game to uninstall it, so I used Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs to uninstall StarDock Control Panel and Galactic Civilizations II - Gold Edition. I then used the search feature to find anything with StarDock in it to remove all folders having to do with the game (in Program Files, Documents and Settings, etc.). I think I pretty much cleaned it all out, except maybe the registry key, as all software adds one of those.

Since I made a boo boo, I was wondering if anyone can tell me what all needs to be deleted to completely remove the game, and will I have trouble re-installing it?

There shouldn't be anything to delete besides the user settings in My Docs\My Games, and the files under Program Files\Stardock. The registry keys are under HKLM\Software\Stardock\Drengin.net.

nd will I have trouble re-installing it?

Shouldn't.

Thanks Kyro. I'll reinstall tonight. My girlfriend deleted the My Games folder for some reason. Guess I'll have to make it a hidden folder.

Well, if that was what happened that led you to reinstall, don't worry about it if it happens again. The game regenerates those folders when you run it, if they're deleted. They just hold your preferences, save games, etc.

Hmmm...

Perhaps she wants a little of the time you are spending on the game.

You will just have to explain 'priorities' to her.

Very carefully, I would think.

D'oh!!!

Don't feel bad. I just uninstalled/reinstalled Neverwinter Nights 2 because I wasn't able to install the latest beta patch. It turns out there was a hot fix for the last patch I didn't know about so all I really had to do was update the game. And that sucker has 7 disks to go through in order to put it on your drive, plus a 119 meg patch to add afterward!

When my girlfriend first moved in she was pretty timid about using my PC... how things have changed. She uninstalled one of her games that used the My Games folder (seems common) and so decided it wasn't needed anymore. I just assumed GalCiv II wouldn't run without it... actually I am not even sure what's in there. So the game will generate the My Games folder if it isn't there? What is saved in there? Just saved games and settings?

NWN2 has 7 disks? I think I have the DVD version, but I haven't played it since 2 weeks after its release. I may finish it someday, but I was hoping the game would be ironed out first.

Settings, saves, ship designs, customized race settings, templates if you're playing DA, and any custom portraits or logos you've put there.
