Weird bug with ship design...

I'll do my best to explain, but...

Hm, so today I was playing as Altarians, and decided to try my hand at designing ships. Rather than use a core design, I jumped in and made my own colony ship. It wasn't all complex or anything, just the big cargo hull and a few pieces of "jewelry". I decided not to add any modules yet, I just wanted a shape. So I saved it as "Colony Transport" and gave it a description, and I was happy with it. I saved it as a Template only.

Later I decided to Upgrade it (there's no option to "Use" a user-made template, for whatever reason). I added two of the mk. III engines (I forget which), resulting in a speed of 6. Added the best sensors available (mk. IV?), also giving a range of 6, then added two life-supports. Then I saved the changes.

Suddenly all the modules I added vanished, and it looked the way it did before I added anything! Except that its stats staid the same--6 speed, 6 sensor range, etc. It was so stupid, I did all that work to have a ship that shouldn't be doing anything but floating through space... and the modules were invisible!? Bah... well I used it anyway cuz I didn't feel like making one from scratch. No idea why this happened...

There is a setting in the interface screen, IIRC, that allows you to select whether or not you want to remove functional components when upgrading.
Also, I don't know whether this was an issue in your case or not but you should rename and upgraded ship design. The game should display a warning message prompting you to rename before saving... maybe this was where you went wrong? Hope this helps, but there are more informed people in here than myself.

Or was it the game options screen... damn I hate when I forget the trivial crap!

This is a simple glitch, I have had it happen a few times to me so I know whats going on.

If you make a ship design and save it then later make changes to that design and save over the older one without renaming it you will not see any of the new components.

They are on it but the game for some reason will not show them until you start a new game.

Its like I said a minor glitch and not really a bug and rather low on the need to fix order of things...

It happened to me every time. So I have to come up with a new name each time? There is no warning saying to change the name.

Hm, while I'm thinking about it... why do I have to start a game to design a ship? Would be nice to have the shipyard out of game... designing these things could take hours for me, and it stinks to have something like this happen. Well you say it should be there on reload? I hope so...

I agree with you on not having to start a game to do ship designs.

I tend to spend a few hours a day just playing around with ship designs in an attempt to make a unified style. Course I'm the only one getting to see them but I still like my ships to look nice when I play.
