ObjectDock 2.0 feature requests

I really like ObjectDock, but it barely works in Vista. I'd pay full price for a new version. Here's my pie-in-the-sky feature request in no particular order:

  1. It should be an aero-enabled application so that it gets rendered with Vista desktop compositing engine.

  2. I want minimized applications to show live thumbnails like those shown when you hover over the Vista taskbar. (This is also how minimized application icons look in the OS X dock, of course.)

  3. Please get rid of the ObjectDock library folder. It really gets in the way. Or, make it much more functional and transparent. For example, make it track all settings so that, if you were to install ObjectDock on a new computer and move that folder over, your docks would basically come back to life.

  4. Vista icons should be fully supported. (I'm sure you're already working on this.) Right now, when you open a Vista application, ObjectDock renders its icon with one of the low resolution resources. These icons look very ugly, and there seems to be no workaround for now.

  5. Get the system tray functionality working again. As it now stands, I have to exit ObjectDock to bring back the Vista taskbar whenever I need to access the System Tray.

  6. One of the background options for docks should be aero glass. Its appearance should reflect the settings in the "Window Color and Appearance" control panel.

  7. I would LOVE it if ObjectDock could host DesktopX objects/widgets/gadgets. I wish there was an interface native to all objects such that you click a "minimize" widget and the gadget resamples to 256x256 (proportionately!) then gets placed on the dock. It should keep its appearance updated, of course!

  8. I wish that a dock would keep itself updated with the contents of the Start Menu. For example, if you pin something to the Start menu, I wish it would also be "pinned" to the default dock. I also wish that the recent program list would also be reflected on the dock. For example, I'd love to have an icon that when clicked opens a flyout showing all the recently opened programs as they are listed on the Start menu.

  9. I wish that new docklets would be written with more robust features. The weather docklet is nice, but a new icon set... with subtle animations... would be ultra-cool. I'd pay for that because it would just be so cool!

  10. I wish that there was a way to perform a desktop search from the dock. As it is, you can tap the Win key and then type your search, but then you have two launcher interfaces overlapping, and it's visually jarring.

  11. I hope there are continued enhancements to drag-and-drop on the dock. All clickable targets should be accessible over a drag operation.

  12. I wish that docklets could generate their own flyouts as part of their interfaces. For example, a weather docklet that, when clicked, throws up a flyout showing icons representing the five-day forecast. But flyouts should also be able to host controls which can accept text. That might make #10 easier to implement.

Thanks for reading my post. As I said, these are "pie-in-the-sky" requests... things I wish ObjectDock could do. I am a huge fan of this app and will always keep it upgraded. It makes my computer much more fun to use. People "ooh-and-ahh" over it every time they see it. They're always surprised to see something so cool on a Windows computer.

WOW. The newest version delivers on so many of these requests! However, it seems that we've lost the ability to nest docklets within custom flyouts. For example, I'd like to add that new weather docklet to a custom flyout. Can't do it.
