DA - Trade Plummets when >10K Cash - Odd bug

A quick review of this forum did not show anyone with this issue, but I may have missed it. I apologize if this is a known issue.

I had noticed a couple of games where, if I got large cash reserves, my income plummeted. I finally took a closer look at it in my current game. What I found was that, if my cash got over 10000, my trade income would drop by ~50%. No other income or expense seems to be affected. In the specific case that I wrote down, at just under 10000 my trade was 871/turn. When I crept over 10000, it went to 471/turn.

In this particular game I am Dom. of Korx, gigantic map, masochistic difficulty, no custom races, 5 opponents. I've noticed it in other games as other races. Workaround, of course, is to just buy things whenever I get near 10000, works fine, but still...
I am on the current patch - .072 I think it is.

Cheers,
Scott

Apparently this is a "feature" intended to penalize the player when they accumulate a large treasury. I've seen a further crippling of income at 20,000bc. I have no idea if there are other breakpoints as well.

The bottom line is that you shouldn't save up that much money, unless you're going to need it in the immediate future. The best solution is to buy/build more factories so that your spending better matches your income.

Hi!
at just under 10000 my trade was 871/turn. When I crept over 10000, it went to 471/turn.

I've seen one player reporting that, but he set the limit to 5000BC, and I couldn't repeat that in my game. After reading your post it finaly became clear the me why I haven't noticed ~5% drop of income in every game I played, but just in some, when my treasury crossed 10kBC. Thank you for sharing that info!

IMO trade revenue is alrady so small, that I really don't see the need for that "penality".

I don't see the point in such a penalty myself. I prefer to upgrade ships, rather than trash them and build new ones. And sometimes it requires alot more than 10K in order to do so. So I'm going to be penalized for saving up the funds that I may need? That's a bit silly.

Well, I guess I can see the point; does the threshold scale with map size or anything like that? I'm with Belanos, I like to upgrade rather than replace my ships. On a huge map I may end up with 20-40 of a given class of ship costing 30K or more to upgrade. Maybe the penalty could phase in rather than an abrupt threshold... I can live with it, it just seems very artifical and crude in a game that is generally very nuanced.
