Start menu issue

When I click on the start menu and use "All programs" it will show the list of installed programs and menus, but when I move the mouse on the list to a submenu it will show the submenu and the main original menu (ie. it's parent menu) will vanish. This happens normally when I haven't used the start menu for a while. The sub-menu will still work, and if I use "All programs" again straight afterwards then everything works fine as it should. Leave a while and does the problem again. This happens on all 3 computers I have tried Blinds on, and with all skins I've chosen.

All 3 computers were running the latest non-beta version of Blinds (problem still happens with all versions from the last couple of months) and WinXP Pro (SP2).

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

I dont know if I could help you to solve the problem but could you tell us..
1) If all 3 computers using the same skin?
2) If all 3 computers using the same hardware configuration...specially the graphics cards.

and if you could post a screenshot of the "disappear main menu"

Sorry, was a bit busy. But in answer to the questions:-

1) If all 3 computers using the same skin?
No. My main PC uses vista plus v2 or Azenis2. My laptop uses Azenis2, and the third one was using some pink effort (I don't use it) but it seems to have stopped with the problem (same with another 2nd laptop).
2) If all 3 computers using the same hardware configuration...specially the graphics cards.
No. The main one uses a 7800GT, the main laptop uses an ATI 9600Pro Turbo, and the other PC uses one of the slower newish Nvidias (6200 I think)

and if you could post a screenshot of the "disappear main menu"
Hmmm. I'll try...

Ok. So here are 2 screenshots. The first one shows how it is supposed to work. This normally happens after the problem. ie. go back to the start button and try again and everything works. The second screenshot shows the problem. ie. the main menu isn't there anymore but the submenu is. Even though the mouse is in the same place in both pictures (even though you cannot see it). ie. in the middle of the box in picture one that shows the "internet" selection on the menu.

Working fine:-

Not fine:-

I have seen the whole thing disappear (as if the mouse moved off the path) but I have not seen a partial disappearance before

Ok, so I unloaded Blinds (not uninstalled) and the problem still happens! Got me thinking though as this has only started since I bought Windows Blinds. As it happens I got the whole Object Desktop package and installed various bits. The main thing I have had a problem with is ObjectDock Plus. It has various issues when on the bottom of the screen when acting as a drawer type object. You know when it slides back down to only show the tabs? Well it's that. As you move to the start menu the ObjectDock appears. Is a bit annoying as it always appears whenever you hover the mouse near the bottom of the screen, regardless of how near you are to the actual dock. Anyway, as you move the mouse to the "All programs" and move up the list to the item you want the dock starts to slide away out of sight. This obviously conflicts with the menu as it makes it cause my problem at the exact same time.

Once I quit ObjectDock Plus everything works fine again. Which is annoying as I quite like it. Any suggestions on fixes?

I don't have the plus version, but maybe someone will come along with the answer - you might see if you can edit the title to something like "OD+ and Start menu issue"

in the mean time - check the settings and increase the delay time
do you have any hotspots on it?

Well I have almost no knowledge on ObjectDock so I'll just trying to help by bump this up

I know what it is. It is the Drawer setting of a dock (ObjectDock Plus) on the bottom of the screen. The act of it sliding away causes the "All programs" menu to vanish but not the start menu or the sub-menu. If you turn off the Drawer setting of the bottom dock then it works fine. Hopefully they fix it because I quite like the dock to completely vanish apart from it's tabs.

It is a glitch in OD when you have the drawer touching two sides at once (In corners of the screen), putting your mouse on the opposite corner will bring it up. However, if you are doing this while you bring up the start menu the drawer will screw up the menus. Try shifting it just enough so that it is only touching ONE side of the screen.

Hi Okami88 I think that is because you set the font color on the normal states as the same/similar color on your hover states items (that gray bar) try to make that font color darker. As far as I know the font color mouse over states set for this one dont work
Hope that help

Okami88 -

When using an image for the mouseover in the StartPanel, the text color will not change on mouseover - it is a limitation of the OS design that WB has not been able to work around. If you don't designate an image & just let Windows use the mouseover highlight color only, the text color will change on mouseover to the regular Windows mouseover text color. That's why many skins don't use a mouseover image there.
