Spying and tech theft

Stealing techs was fairly common for me before the last update, and they seemed to always occur with civs I had spies planted in. I've played 3 or 4 games since the last update, with the same amount of spies used, and have not stolen one tech yet. Not sure if it's a random thing, or if something changed.

Speaking of tech-stealing, I have to date never seen it happen.

Is disabling tech-trading also preventing tech-stealing perhaps?

I've seen it happen, I've done it once or twice, but not much it seems lately. The AI keeps nullifying them before my spies can even get info on the other races.

Until now I only got new techs from invasions (which seems to be unrelated to spying, at least that was stated in some posts) and that an other race has been stealing techs and would be willing to trade it to me. I actually thought the invasion thing was the tech spying mentioned in the manual.
I really wish there was some proper documentation for this game, instead of having to guess all the way...

Hmm, that's strange. I'd say tech theft occur fairly frequently for me. But then I like to play with super spy and high espionage bonus; in smaller games I usually get to overwhelm others with spies...

I get tech theft but it's infrequent. Definitely not enough to count on. But I use a strategy where I switch all my spies over to a different race once I reach Advanced.

What I like best about Espionage: you get to see where all of his ships are going on autopilot! Sweet!

Never cared much too. I didnt even knew it was possible.

Yesternight I got a tech from Yor with just one spy and medium level of intelligence. So it seems that one has to have spies on AIs' planets to stole tech(s).
