SDC not recongnizing Vista?

But only when installing or updating

So I've been trying to install all the cool stuff on my new Vista system that I had running on my older system, but can't seem to get SDC to let me install the Vista compatible components. Usually I get some error about needing to have Vista installed to get this component, which I have. The only helpful one is when I try to install IconPackager, which gives a short error report:

Result: Installation failed (28)

What I don't get is why my OS is showing up as XP SP2 and not Vista, and why Access is being denied to this program. Can anyone give me some help, I really want to set this up right.

Are you running as an admin?  UAC on or off?  Try turning it off while installing.
Using 64 bit Vista?  I don't show x64 support mentioned in the changelog.  Usually it's mentioned specifically.

I'm running a new Alienware system with Vista Ultimate 32-bit pre-installed, UAC always off(damn thing is annoying), and I am running under Admin. I had to download all the SD stuff once I got used to the system for a couple days so as not to run it into the ground too hard (which I did a little bit several times). This whole thing puzzles me because SDC isn't recognizing that I'm running Vista on that machine. Maybe it is confusing the info somehow?
But maybe I'll have to worry about all this in a few days; I cleaned my router today and now it doesn't work....strange, all i did was used canned air to clean the dust off. SO I don't have internet on that machine with the problem, so for now the problem is on vacation. I am wondering about how to change that mis-information though, so any help is greatly appreciated.

First I do not use Vista but found this on PC World regarding Windows updates available March 13th

"March 2007 Windows Vista Application Compatibility Update," added compatibility "shims" -- code that makes an application think it's actually running on a pre-Vista PC -- for older Windows titles, including Trend Micro's Internet Security, Windows Server 2003 (SP1) Administration Tools Pack and RealNetworks' RealPlayer 6.0.12.

Hopefully the Windows updates will solve those issues each of you are having

Post back here Please to let us know if the updates fixed it

Found the link that includes a list of programs that the patch covers from Microsofts Knowledge base...

HERE noting that SDC is not listed but the patch may still solve the problem
This update applies to:

• Windows Vista Ultimate
• Windows Vista Starter
• Windows Vista Home Premium
• Windows Vista Home Basic
• Windows Vista Enterprise
• Windows Vista Business
• Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition
• Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition
• Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit edition
• Windows Vista Enterprise 64-bit edition

APPLIES TO
• Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
• Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Note After you install this update, a CD device or a DVD device may not work correctly. If you select the device in Device Manager and then view the properties for the device, you may receive the following error message:
The software for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Windows. Contact the hardware vendor for a new driver. (Code 48)
This problem occurs because a legacy application may install drivers that are incompatible with Windows Vista.

There is a link to find a workaround....HERE

This is from the link in the above article but thought it should be posted in case someone didn't read the entire page...it is after all a long one
