PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!

i want my object desktop stuff back!

ok heres the story,
i bought the whole object desktop suite and have been running it or over a year now, so my subscription had run out, as i chose not to renew it, but i still ran object desktop. so i recently just got a new pc and wanted to put all the object desktop stuff from my old pc onto my new pc -heres where it gets complicated.

i have been running my pc for about 2 weeks now and decided i wanted object dektop my old pc was just sitting in the corner not connected to anything just incase i needed something

so i plugged my old pc into everything and attatched my external 120gb hdd to put the files on to once i had archived them from stardock central, but when i came to swich on the old pc once everything was connected, it quietly went pop and then nothing.

after speaking to my techincal advisor he told me that the power supply was most probably dead. this leaves me with a problem. i cannot archive the old stardock central stuff because i cannot start my old pc. so i did this:

i took the old hdd with my object desktop stuff out and put in in my external hdd case after taking the original one out, i can now access the old program files and the documents and files that used to be on my old pc but i still cannot get my object desktop components to show up in central. i have copied old stardock program files folder into my new pc's C: drive but still nothing, just a blank accound with theme manager showing up as the only thing i have purchased (but that was there before i did any of this stuff)

So what im asking is, how do i get my purchased object desktop back?

please help as i really loved all the object desktop stuff and miss it sorley.

thanks in advance.

far as I know, the only one's SDC will restore are the one's you did have archived before

if you had any, open sdc click file, restore archive, browse to you old archive files
(generally in C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\BACKUP

you still show as a current customer, what happens if you go to the support page and enter your email?

Yes, all you have to do , is go to Stardock support and they will send you all your downloads and activation codes.

Sorry to jump in here, but this may help:

Ideally, you would download and install SDC onto your new computer (which will include entering your e-mail address information during install) > load SDC after install > enter your serial number for Object Desktop via the SDC tools menu to register it > install the programs.

That being said, you may run into an issue where the full versions are not available due to your Object Desktop account not being currently active (even if your WC account is - they are two different things).

If this is the case and all you see offered for download in SDC are trial versions for WindowBlinds, IconPackager, and other programs that are not free, you will probably be stuck with two choices:

1 - Renew Object Desktop subscription.

2 - Find a way to boot your old computer up and create archives of the installed programs. If you do this you can burn the archive files to disc > place them in the "C:\Program Files\Stardock\Stardock Central\BACKUP" folder > start SDC and restore archives to the new system.

I wrote a mini tutorial which is based on an older version of SDC, but the basic procedure is the same (the '.zip' files have changed to a different file extension and the interface may be a bit different). You can read it here http://corkyo.wincustomize.com/articles.aspx?aid=83629

If your power supply is bad in the old computer and you are comfortable with working on computers, you could pull the power supply from your new computer and connect it to the old one temporarily (as well as a monitor, keyboard, and mouse) and boot it up to create the archives. Or pay the renewal fee and re-subscribe if that is what you wish.

It may be possible to contact sales and see if they would help in some way to reduce the price of renewal. This will probably depend on how long ago your subscription ran out.

Good luck.

ok i received the email, it says this (i XXX some stuff)

=--------------------------------------------------------------------=
----- Stardock.net Accounts ----
Name : XXXXXX
Email : XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Password : XXXXXXXXX
--------------------------------

Product Name : Object Desktop: Network Edition
User Name : Gary Woodhouse
Download : https://www.stardock.com/sdnet_login.asp (Create or login with
your Stardock.net account)
Download : http://sdc.stardock.com/sdcentral_setup.exe (Install SDC and use
serial above)
Serial Number : OD-XXXXXXX-OEM-XXXXXXXXXX

Product Name : Stardock Central Component Manager
Download : http://sdc.stardock.com/sdcentral_setup.exe
=--------------------------------------------------------------------=

i went into my freshly downloaded sdc and went to register products, put in the serial number, and it said "Your account information has expired, would you like to renew" it still does not show in my purchased programs list in sdc.

what do i do next?

depends, did you get the email?

i have never archived the sdc stuff before,

basically it's up to us to archive our versions that are paid for.

realistically, you can't really expect a company to hang on to old versions forever.

You could contact sales@stardock.com and/or support@stardock.com and explain your situation. Unfortunately it is the weekend and you will need to wait until Monday DST to get a response. I'm sure they will have a resolution for you.

i am planning on buying a new psu now and i will do that,

It'd possibly be cheaper AND easier to just renew your OD sub....

Certainly don't start swapping PSUs from the new to the old machine....warranties, etc may void...

The man got a point. Cheaper, quicker, less work. Sound like a good deal.
