WB 5.5 and Vista HomeBasic?

Will the new WB allow for one to have Aero-like Glass effects under Vista HomeBasic like it did for XP?

As long as you have a WDDM driver, yes.

I do need to mention that Vista Home Basic will not do blur effects.  So the taskbar in some skins will not be blurred for example.

Why would anyone want it to "blur" in the first place? If they can simulate the glass effect certainly that can do this as well?

Home Basic is restricted. The Aero theme present on it is not even transparent let alone have blur effects. I don't know why Microsoft chose to do this, its pointless to restrict stuff like that if you ask me.

If it drives sales to Vista and more profit for stockholders, it makes sense.

Everyone knows Home Basic is worthless. It has nothing in it, theres no point in it even being available lol

Makes me wonder if the folks running Home Basic should be running Linux w/ KDE or GNOME instead. At least the two, as it stands now, are fairly comparable in terms of applications and features.

At least we didn't waste as much money on this piece of crap as those who bought the higher editions.

I'm seriously considering upgrading back to XP. I've had to reinstall 3 times this week because it didn't like a program that was suppose to be Vista "compatible" and system restore and repair don't work all that well either in this. Waiting until SP1 comes out is sounding better and better. Vista is far worse than Windows ME ever was. 5 years and $6 billion and it is still just a beta.

That's YOUR experience and hardly typical of the hundreds of thousands of others who have installed Vista without issues. Comparing Vista with ME is ludicrous and reveals a measure of ignorance on your part. Most problems encountered, regardless of what O/S one is using are due to user error, either during installation, because of some alleged "tweaking" that was done that was supposed to improve how Microsoft designed the O/S to operate efficiently and productively or the machine has malware, viruses, etc. I've personally installed Vista on quite a number of PC's and not one had problems, particularly the ones you are complaining about. On my own machine, I upgraded over the top of XP, which was installed 5 years previously and I have had not one problem. Look to thyself first to cast blame before automatically blaming Windows Vista for your woes.

Whether or not you agree with sjc1963 about the quality of the new OS, you have to admit that Home Basic is, in some respects which happen to be very important to the OS customization community, a definite downgrade from XP. I happen to think that was a mistake on MS's part which will generate more ill will as people buying new computers (or installing Home Basic) figure out that they have a less graphically capable OS than they had with XP. I've been watching ads recently & virtually every computer advertised has Home Basic. You have to wonder about all that time & billions resulting in a basic-level OS less appealing than XP Home. One can only hope that MS figures this out and does something about it with SP1. I plan to keep a copy of XPP SP2 on hand.
