Little Pleasures

(from a while back, but I'll still own it)

So I get up again
with my head wet and bruised
to try again
and find something
cool and sparkly and juicy
in a day designed to be
everything but those things

maybe I’ll hear a song
that will remind me
of my long gone grandpa

maybe an email will come
and tell me
someone bought a copy of my book

maybe I’ll find
the perfect pastrami sandwich

maybe everyone I’m supposed
to meet with
will decide to resign and
I won’t have to meet with them

Maybe an unseen bird
singing in a bright blue sky
happily unaware
of all this human folly

little surprises
in an otherwise deadening
march toward death
help keep my perspective

maybe I’ll even write something

I sit in quiet wonder
in a world that waits for me
to join in its pageantry

in the Carl's Jr parking lot
with my foot on the brake

and
slow down

and enjoy
my sausage and bacon sandwich.

Hey Buddah,

You just gave me something pleasurable in what has been a not so pleasureable day. Thanks very much.

I will look for something pleasant and unexpected in my day tomorrow. Beats negative thinking. If I don't look for it, I might miss it. Thanks for this pleasant meditation, Buddah.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. It is your challenge to find the beautiful, the divine everywhere.

Me (in prayer): God, help me to find you.
God: Schmuck, where aren't I?

No matter how late I get here, your words always so good to read!

Thanks. I try to make my writings like little snacks that hopefully won't grow stale, and maybe even stand up to repeated nibbling. (See, food figures prominently in every part of my life.)
