Help with product registration

I looked through the sticky, none of it addresses my specific concern.

I purchased Dark Avatar from a retail outlet and installed both the original game as well as DA on my newly installed system (I'm using Vista, in case it matters).

I already owned an electronic copy of GalCiv II through Stardock, but I wanted to own the media on disc and since it came with DA, this seemed like a good opportunity.

After installing the product, I see in the read me file I'm to use Stardock to update my games. I went to Stardock and put in my e-mail/password, and it was indeed able to detect I had an installed and updateable copy of GalCiv II DL on the system, but next to Dark Avatar all it says is "purchase" I right-clicked and tried to put the SN from the disc case in, but it says it's not a valid key (I was able to install with this key with no problems). I tried "activate w/logging" but it says I have this product registered on another account and I should contact Stardock to merge the accounts. I only have one account!

Now, I forgot about it for a few days, as DA doesn't run very well on my system anyway and I'm just waiting for something to get fixed. This morning, however, I noticed the status changed from "purchase" to "update" and there seems to be an update. Could this fix some of the vista issues? I can't find out, it's just bringing me to a product page when I click on "install"

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott,

I don't see the Gold Edition registered to your Stardock.net account, only GalCiv II. Within Stardock Central have you tried to manually register Dark Avatar using the serial number from your Gold Edition jewel case?  That should kick things through for you.

The Vista issues are related to video drivers, which are out of our hands unfortunately. Do you have an Nvidia card?

I do have an Nvidia card, a 7800 GT. I'll just keep sitting tight for Nvidia to get this figured out!

I am not sure how to register the entire game (Gal Civ II GOLD), I just right-clicked on DA itself as it already showed up that I have an installed and legit copy of Dread Lords. How do I do that?

In Stardock Central, select Games and then click on Registration Info in the lower right corner. Select Dark Avatar (Expansion Pack) from the Product dropdown (it appears directly under GalCiv II). Then type your Gold Edition serial into the Serial Number field and click Register.

I'll try that when I get home. thanks!

Okay, this is what I'm running into now.

There is no product for Gal Civ II or Dark Avatar. It looks like the only products are things like Window Blinds and Object Desktop Subscription. It's like I'm stuck in the "Object Desktop" section, and I WANT to be in the "Games" section. Any section under "Register" that I click on does nothing, if I click on Stardock.net Account though, then I'm taken to my account screen, and all the other options below Register seem to work.

Any ideas?

Are you running Vista (pre-Vista-release versions of SDC had issues with the register products dialog like you describe)? If so, you may just need to get the latest version of SDC.

Otherwise, or if that doesn't work, you can also go straight to the Games section of the register dialog by right clicking on GC2 (or any game) in the main screen, then choosing Register Products there.

I've already tried to right click on the game itself (it's actually what I was trying on day one). I'm guessing it's the issue you described first. That being said, I installed the version of Stardock that came on the Gold Edition CD's and I'm still getting this.

I'm going to un-install SDC, pull down the latest version and install that. I'll post my progress next.

Thanks!

Update: I downloaded and installed the version you linked, but it's still doing the thing where I can't navigate the various types of products (it defaults to Object Desktop and while I can click on Games and Misc, etc. all I want, nothing happens from doing so.... Any other ideas?

I do indeed have Vista installed.

Do you have access to any XP machines you could do it on?
