Modding Mass Driver Effects

Alright, here's the thing. A lot of the weapon effects got fancied up in DA. However, as far as I can tell, all the Mass Drivers are still the slow moving missile-like effects like they've always been. So, a few questions:

#1) Has this already been done? I've searched a bit and haven't found anything yet, so...

#2) My general idea is such: I'll maintain what the graphics currently look like. The spike driver will still be the same model/skin as before, however, instead of a single shot, I want it to fire a stream of smaller bullets. Is this a sane way to go about doing this? I'm basically planning on taking a look at how the beam (and the modded disruptor) weapons work, and using those as a basis for how the guns will work. It won't look perfect, but it'll be more to my preference, at least.

#3) Finally, software. I'm currently looking at Blender and Wings3d for editing the models. Blender seemed to have issues importing the .X files, however (and I don't know if Wings3d can even do that). Maybe I'll have a bit more luck with Blender on Windows... any suggestions there? I'm no modeller, so I'm a bit new to this, but this is such a minor project that I think it's a decent thing to start from.

Edit: Actually, one other thing. Given the initial plan (modify the included models and textures (and hell, probably sounds) to behave as I'd like)... would I even be allowed to distribute these, given that they'd be derivatives of Stardock material?

Hi Tsed, I made some of the new Weapon effects in Dark Avatar, yes I maintainly have updated just the Beam effects, cause this is my favorite.

I'm going to upload a whole Weapon Mod of my newest hottest Weaponeffects in the next weeks. They will renew/replace all Weapons in Dark Avatar =O)

That's, uh... pretty close to what I'd be going for (that is, I want the MDs to be more, well... gun-ish). I was going to be using the ones you posted to the Library as references, actually.

thx, yeah but the one in the library were old, the new ones will be much more impressive =o)

Shouldn't need too much time to get them finish, so probably this week =O)

I'll open a thread when I'm finish.

Ps: You'll get your fast Mass Drivers (are Gattling gun animations ok? =o) )

Hey, those are really cool effects. Good Job. I have a few questions: are you going to release those mods in the "library" or on your site, or both? and is it compatible with the English version? and DA?

I'll upload the Weapon mod for Da on both sides, the ones you have seen belong to the X3GC2 Mod and will be uploaded just on I-Mod =O) It's compatible with all versions of GC2.

I've always hated the Mass Driver effects. They should be like yours, NOT like slow, floaty blobs that appear to slow down and curve towards their target!

Holy wow. That is all I can say. With this mod and the Battlestar Models, you could actually have some real fun with those Mass Drivers finally!

Quick question -- is this be MV compatible? It didn't trigger anything when I loaded up my MV save, but I dunno if it usually would say anything at that point.

I don't thinks it's metaverse compatible, cause I had to change the GC2types to let the effects function well (launch/impact frames etc.)
as I understand, every change of the datafiles is not MV compatible, sry.

You can easily swap the GC2types and everything is back to standard, there won't be overwritten any weaponfile. Just the GC2Types.

take as much time as possible. I'd rather see it functioning and look cool and wait than have it immidiantly and it not function properly.
