Performance issues

I'm still on my first game of DA. I am spending most of my time changing settings to get the game from running very choppy. I have a pretty old system,

1.6 Pentium 4
768 Ram
Gforce 5200 128 mb graphics card.
I made sure I had at least 2 gig vmemory

DA worked well enough on the highest settings (choppy movies) and with my real player running in the background, but even on the lowest video settings(which kinda makes the game unplayable to me), it is still choppy and I couldn't think about running any background problems like real player. Is there an option I'm missing? The performance between the two games DL and DA is like night and day.

Thanks.

Make sure you have the Anti-aliasing switched right down

I feel your pain. Your specs sounds exactly like my old system video card and all. I'd always cancel out of movies, kind of a shame. The real OMG is that you don't yet know how good this looks with a better vid card/system.

Yep I know what you mean, up until about a month or two ago I was running it on

866 Pentium III
512 MB RAM
Nvidia GeForce MX 400 64 MB

It was pretty obnoxious to play, but it ran, I found that pretty amazing.

If your board is the FX5200, I also feel your pain. I replaced a MMX440 board with it and my gaming performance actually dropped. I spent the next few months doing research, reading reviews and complaints - what I should have done before purchasing it. I was never happier the day that I replaced it, and I took a hammer to it afterwards.

I'm tellin' ya. That 866 processor and that MX 400 are workhorses! I was able to run all sorts of games that shouldn't have been able to run on that system!
