Check the date time stamp for those when IE shows those sites visited. Then find out who was using your computer at that time. IE doesn't track sites that haven't been visited.

I had a user at my office insist on the same thing, but the proxy shows his computer had visited those sites. So maybe you didn't visit them but somebody did.

Here is a Google for different ways to delete them, cccleaner should work fine as well.

I use all of these following programs for years and never have any kind of threats on my computer. A multi program defense is the recommended way to protect your putter.

A-Squared free ; cleans: trojans, keyloggers, rootkits, backdoors, worms, bots, dialers & spyware & adaware

Ad-aware SE
Spybot Search % Destroy
CCleaner
SpywareBlaster
MRU blaster
JV16 Power Tools
XP Antispy
Hijack This

Take Erk's advice before using any of these programs

use with caution, read ALL instructions on how to use it, FIRST.

You didn't indicate if you have XP , if so I would suggest NOT doing a System Restore because it may already have backed up whatever threat you have downloaded. Install & update these programs....All but JV16 is free ....do a through deep cleaning with each and undo System Restore..reboot...once you are sure your computer is clean...then reset System Restore.

do they go away after you visit them?

If there is no-one else physically using your comp then you have an outside source controlling your comp in which case a reformat is in order even if an outside is not the prob you most probably need one, especially if it's over a year since the last format

Before you reformat get a firewall ready on a rom inc anti-spyware,once reformat is complete install firewall then ant-ivirus then head over to microsoft update, and do not leave till every update is applied including IE7,before applying SP2 check what updates you need for your printer, rom drives & software from 3rd parties that way SP2 install will be trouble free

You mention norton anti-virus slowed your comp, even when i had 256 ram and a 40GB 5400rpm hdd it did'nt appear to slow anything except email download scanning, are you sure it's not malware or gunked up registry and no defrag that's causing your slow comp

CNET & TechRepublic have numerous articles on how to protect the comp when surfing and on general comp maintenance
