Installing a ship pack?

Hi

I have spent few hours now (only have som 12 hours per week to play galciv) to try install these shipacks but somhow it just doesnt work. I have tried everything from reading manuals and faqs to study&try/error/tryagain learning methods to understand
how to do this but to no.

I have two packs I want to install to GC2. Pubmasters and terran alliance ship mods. I have read both readmes (the little they had) and put all terran alliance -ship files into my windows GalCiv2\ships-folder where the custom ships are saved.

For pubmaster I installed the latest and greatest KHRO 1.9 mod (galciv gamedir mod subdir and then run the bat file and then choose it as mod from ingame) and it seems to works just fine. Pubmasters ship files I put into my windows documents GalCiv2\ships-folder just like terran alliance ship files.

However when I run the game I cant find these ships from anywhere withing the game? Am I missing somthing here. The game collectors edition and updated with the latest patch.

Are you using Terran style ships, starting a new game, and have any required hull techs?

Hi Zahkal, the Terran Alliance ships you're talking about are probably from the Terran Alliance Fleet designs I created. As I understand it correctly, you eventually got Pubmasters mod working but not mine?
My ship designs do not require anything else than the Collector's edition parts, but there are some things you have to take notion of:

- Dread lords and Dark avatar have their own seperate ship directories
- Metaverse and regular games have their own seperate ship directories

To use my ships in a DL regular game:
copy them into your 'My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\ships' dir
To use my ships in a DL metaverse game:
My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\Metaverse\ships
To use my ships in a DA regular game:
My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\ships
To use my ships in a DA metaverse game:
My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\Metaverse\ships

To check out the designs you can start a DL or DA regular game and
set the game mode to 'Battle of the Gods', this way you immediately get the
required hull techs for the designs.
In a metaverse game you have to research the required hull techs first.

In DA there are now templates, but to use previously created designs as templates, you have to use them as ships and then resave them within the game with the 'use as template' option turned on.

I hope this helps, let me know if it doesn't.

i can't get the ships to show up, i followed the instructions and put them in My Documents/My Games/GC2DarkAvatar/ships. i have v1.5 DA, any idea why they won't show up? i tried everything, and tested on battle of gods, they are no where to be found.

oh and i'm pretty sure i have the collector's edition parts, when im using the shipyard under the Extras tab theres parts in the generic category with the description "Collectors edition part"

Make sure you are using the same style they were made with. If they were made in DL, note that the prefixes on the .shipcfg files are different in DA, so you may need to rename those files as well to make them appear under the style you want. To find the prefixes associated with each style, go look inside the files in Program Files\Stardock\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar\Data\English\ShipStyles.

nm i spoke too soon. i got 1 out of 2 ship packs to work. the one that works advertised 10 new ships, and the package has 10 .shipcfg and 10 .xml files. now the next pack has 28 ships advertised with more then 28 .shipcfgs and instead of xmls theyre .shipclass. i tried renaming the .shipclass to .xml but they still don't show up.

Shipclass files were used on the 1.0 version of the game, and are no longer compatible.

I want to install a bunch of ships, but I need the Collector's Edition parts. I don't have the CE parts, so how can I get them?
Mmm, I'm not sure but I think updating your game with the latest patch automatically gives you the CE parts.

The latest patch has them. They use to be available at the Downloads Button (Top Left of this page.). However now that I checked it, they must only be available by the patch. Check your extras in the shipyard. They should be identified by yellow text as Collector's Edition Structure.

Can someone explain step by step how to install a ship pack because Im totally confused on where to place them, I'm plaing DA so I know they go into that file, but theres 3 folders possible, shipcfg, ship templates, then in the english folder another ship folder, i've tried to place them in there and they don't work. I can't even get the stupid United federation of planets logo to work, and I've pleaced that in the GFX/race folder where it goes in DA and nothing. What am I doing wrong.
Thanks.

For most ships you simply put the .shipcfg and .xml files into My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\ships, then go play a game using the appropriate style on the appearance tab in the game creation screen. That's it. If they were designed for standard GC2 then the shipcfg files may need to be renamed in order to make them appear under the same style in-game as before. You do not need to put any files in the game's data folders unless there are actual new models involved (.x files).

Put logos in My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\Gfx\Logos.

Thanks Kryo, that worked for the portraits and logos, but the ships are still not shoing up. Im trying to use the Sidemancer's_TA_Fleet mod. Could you try and see why its not working, because when I go to choose my customized appearance it only shows all the games fleets and nowhere to be found are Sidemancers ships.
Thanks for helping me out .

Did you copy the designs into the ship folder using subdirectories? That might explain why it didn't work. Just copy the designs (.xml and .shipcfg) straight in the appropriate ships directory.

Hey Sidemancer, nice ships by the way, What do you mean subdirectories, theres only 3 folders to place these into the DA folder. Ships, Ship, Ship Styles, and ship templates. Are you saying I have to take the folders ike Battleships, destroyers, ect. and put them into the ships directories but as a folder?
When you say ship directories theres 3 locations I can place them, so to me this is confusing to me. Sorry for being a bother but could you explain to me how to put them into the right folders correctly Thanks.

I don't have DA yet but may I suggest going to the ships folder and looking for some other .XML and .SHIPCFG files. More than likely thats the one that you want to copy the files to. Start a new game (Battle of the Gods if not in the metaverse)to view the ships. Also judging by the comment above I will also say that you need to pull the .xml and .shipcfg files out of the the Battleships, destroyers, ect folders and place them directly into the ships folder. If they are still in their original folders INSIDE the ships folder GalCiv will not see the new ship files.

I hope that helps.

Sigh... *rubs temples*

theres only 3 folders to place these into the DA folder. Ships, Ship, Ship Styles, and ship templates.

Ok, you say there's 3 folders but you actually name 4.. Well, there are 4 relevant directories, but they're not the ones you mentioned.., exept the ships dir.

The 4 directories you should be looking for are ALL called 'ships'

My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\ships
My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\Metaverse\ships
My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\ships
My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\Metaverse\ships

Copy the designs in one of the directories (without creating any folders in the ships dir)

Look at reply #2 in this thread to see in what directory you should/want to copy the files.

You could for instance copy the files in the GalCiv2\ships or GC2DarkAvatar\ships dir (depending on what game you have). Start the game, choose 'new game', in the first options screen choose 'Battle of the Gods' and continue. You should be able to see the designs in the Ship editor.

Good luck!

nice ships by the way

Thanks by the way and since you mentioned the DA folder, you should concern yourself only with:

My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\ships
My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\Metaverse\ships

HeHe,
Well once I have found the fountain of youth and use the Holy Grail to make a batch of nectar of the gods I feel that only then will I have the ability to answer all questions. However, if Kryo would bottle his batch...
But I do try to be clear.
