Can't make new template

The game locked the new template feature, and I can now only use the ones in it provides me.

Go to prefs.ini and delete it. The prefs.ini can be found in My Docs/My Games/GCII/DA
Once deleted you will need to set your resolution etc again but should be able to use the templates again.
If this does not work i would consider emailing support@stardock.com and ask for their assistance

You are most likely seeing that the 'custom style' button is disabled when customizing your own race. This is correct behavior. You'll find that the button is enabled when customizing an AI. The reason for this is that the screen for assigning templates to ship classes only affects the AI. As a human you can simply use whatever designs you want.

You should still be able to create templates in game--the custom style button has no effect on that. Just check the 'create template also' box when you save a ship design.
