Removing or Hiding gridlines & fog

I've been looking all over and can't find any graphic overlay files for the main grid (blue) and the fog. I'd like to remove them if possible - but am starting to wonder if it's hardcoded.

note - this is not the smaller grid that can be removed with ctl-g... but the larger grid. Click the link for a full screenshot (look at what the red arrows point at

The fog is because you have "Blind Exploration" as a galaxy set-up option. It will dissapear as you send ships into it.

As for the grid lines, I don't think you can.

Hehe, I know about the fog-of-war and blind exploration. My reason for eliminating it is setting up special shots in-game (you'll see).

Via cheats it's easy. If you do ctrl shift R (to research everything so you have max sensor range), then do ctrl U - after you lcick thorugh a couple of your ships all the fog is gone. That's fine.

But all I need now is to get rid of the box grid
