define deskop margins?

Is there any way to define the desktop margins that IconX uses to position icons? I like to use a Sysmetrix bar across the top of the screen which, of course, covers the first row of desktop icons. Setting the Sysmetrix config to "reserve space when theme resembles a dock" fixes that problem, but does so by also limiting the desktop for apps when maximized.
If this can't be done now, hopefully it wouldn't require too much coding to fix. (said with absolutely NO idea of what I'm talking about.....)

Would it help if I groveled at Brad's feet????
