a Block-Block

Just an article

but Democrats vowed they still would find a way to force President Bush to change course in a war that has claimed the lives of more than 3,000 U.S. troops

"We must heed the results of the November elections and the wishes of the American people,

"The American people do not support escalation. Last November, voters made it clear they want a change of course, not more of the same,"

this has got to be an example of "give a man an inch and he'll want a mile". Democrats were elected in a very VERY slim slim slim majority, this doesnt set any "precedent" or "declare the mindset of the American people".
worst of all is the "we'll find a way" idea, thats not how the government was designed to work. in fact its created diametrically opposed to this idea, a small majority should not express a lot of power.
Frankly Dems are becoming both imperialistic and ambitious at an alarming rate. They are alarmingly naive for people supposed to run the government (thank god the victory wasnt a landslide)

You said America, so I assumed you meant the government, thats what i was talking about

but Nintendo isn't a japanese government...
and China promotes R&D but doesn't do it itself. (excluding militarily) so whats your point...
because technically they are(or most of them are) international

and therin lies the key to our economy.
As in they arent American or anything like that.

oh, hell most of them are American. in fact a lot of companies are rooted here rather than in other places for our economy and our capitalist government.
Companies dont want to make technology cheaper for the customer, they want to make the production of the technology cheaper. Which leads to basic corruption and jacked prices.

not *completely* true. reducing prices is always a way to draw more consumers and increase competition. a more than easy enough counter to "basic corruption"
and its not like the Chinese companies decrease their prices to any noticeable degree more than ours.

Ahh!!! My beutiful post!! It didnt want to post...

I am chronically depresed now, leave me alone

yeah, thats why if the load starts acting screwey I immediately copy my post, so taht it wont be lost.

but dont let lots of time wasted and chronic depression stop you from debating, I need as much escape from my work as possible

Lmao, i have been escaping my own for hours now, thanks to myspace and pointless bulitens that i just have to read.

I can not really offer much more than what i already said. The one arguement i did have left was that not one company would swear allegiance to the US, unless nationalized or threated with nationalization. Now, that pretty much makes them not American, because besides the open market and the educated(well at least somewhat educated) workforce. The bad thing this country is doing in my opinion, is being overly capatalistic. We treasure money and our possesions more than anything else. All we can do is complain about what is happening in the world, but few of us do so much as donate $50 dollars on christmas. Something i aim at doing before I get anyone else presents, including family. I mean, besides students and a few adults I dont see much gratidute or humility. And most of the time its motivated by something similar to money.

The government isnt helping, their education reforms are horrendous, in my opinion. Why? Well mostly because they are planning to concentrate on two main areas, scince and math. And they are planning to screw over all of the other areas of education. Already cuts are being made in foreign language, social studies, and art. What happens then to those who dont like science or math, who would rather paint, or think, or write. What happens to that average student who doesnt want to compete for everything, who just wants to have a normal existance.

I dont want to raise an issue over morals and capatalism. Though that could lead to a interesting discussion.

well I cant see this happening anywhere... unless your talking about cultural motivations.
I dont want to raise an issue over morals and capatalism

as far as I'm concerned its all about personal preference.
I like to live in a world of science and math, where people aren't assuming or cozy, touchy feely etc. for me its about cold, hard advancement. because thats simply more fun.
people who like things of less, hard advancement, can feel free to go wherever of a hundred other countries in the world that cater to that sort of thing. the problem is that America is one of the last bastions of truly free advancement, and even that is being encroached upon by "moral" Republicans and "equal opportunity" Democrats.
I enjoy science, I like math. But, I would not give up all the greater things we have. I mean there is art and there is abstract thiking, things we can not express with math or science, and even fuzzy logic does not amount to the infinite ability of our brain to imagine and create.

Free advancement is an illusion. Its never free, nothing is free. Advancement is made by opportunity. Usually it happens through war, othertimes it happens through demand. And only a few time has it happened by accident. In the end one advancement led to another and another. But, generally each one had one of two goals in mind. To find a way to make life better, or to find way of ending life in a more efficient way. Such a contrast in goals, but its true. The greed of humanity is truely outdoing itself in our world. I mean look at the ridiculous things that are happening. Billions of dollars were pored into research of whether or not Pluto was a planet or not. What her face just dies, and that is all the media has to talk to about, while about 20,000 people die every day just from poverty, another 15,000 die from common disease, 25,000 die from cancer, diebities, AIDS and advanced disease. They could discuss the impending social security crisis or the fact that genocide is happening in Darfur. That the thing i dont get, we SWORE to protect all oppressed cultures and we SWORE to never let genocide happen after WWII. And now in a country with a GDP less than that of Vermont has killed over 250,000 people, and has displaced another 3 million.

I personally have little hope for the world anymore. All advacement will be ingaged into beuracracy and made into the peoples play thing. Even moral institutions such as goverment becomes a bussiness. Even the Church falls under the pressures of red tape.

I mean unrestrained.
of course this isnt a free lunch you need to work for it.

and there isnt a better government out there.

ah well, humanity has its faults. theres not much you or I can do about it.
There isnt much that is true. But there is so much much more we could try and do to improve society in general, that we dont do. We are just too busy to go help pass out clothes to the poor, we are just too strained for cash to give up that five dollars that could buy food for an entire family. We are just too cool to go pick up that trash on the highway. We are just too rich to buy that gas conserving car, plus this gas gobler comes in my fovorite color.

The fact that we are so immoral and greedy just disturbs the crap out of me.

as I always say, here are the four ways to stop global warming:
1. Plant more trees!

2. Plug up all volcanoes and sources of CO2 in the ocean

3. Destroy everything created by humanity

4. Mass genocide!

to put simply everything is a cost/benefit analysis. many things would grind to a halt under some demands, although passing out some money (as long as it does to the "deserving" poor, mentally handicapped etc. not drunks) is not something that would be too much of a stretch.
I dont think global warming is not the big issue anymore. The fact that i dont like is that a recent panel of scientists said that the government paid them to keep quite about findings that could have potentially proven global warming, and found a way to stop it. Just the fact that this democracy wants to keep things hidden, things that are potentially irrelevant, just goes to show how corrupt this institution is becoming.

And havent you heard of global cooling?
I never heard that...

well thats disturbing. (the scientists, not global cooling) find me the article, will ya?
It was recently in the news I think. If I can find an article that is related then I will post it. Part of that news was that a private company is paying scientists to reveal what the government paid them to keep hidden.

Yea, there is another group that is saying that in truth global warming is just another phase in our planets cycle. They say that this era is most likely the calm before the storm, the storm most likely being the next Ice Age.
It was recently in the news I think

then I missed it and would appreciate having the article

the storm most likely being the next Ice Age

I'm aware of that theory. and its supported by ice drillings.

Have you also heard that if we cause enough imbalance we might bring it about earlier?

Trying to find the articles, have come up with ones about how companies are now starting to pay scientists more for this info. But, nothing on the fact that washington hid things yet.

I smell watergate

But, nothing on the fact that washington hid things yet.

well that seems shaky...

Have you also heard that if we cause enough imbalance we might bring it about earlier?

and what would you have us do? we cant STOP!
we can try to streamline and cleen up emmissions, but if we are going to STOP (or just escape) an ice age we're going to need this stuff
Reply #41 Top
You cant 'stop' an ice age

The ice age will come, scientist will try and warn us, we will ignored it. And then most of our civilization will colapse into anarchy as the major population centers of the world are flooded and forzen.

And yes we CAN stop, we CAN.

We can stop using fosil fuels, there is hydrogen fuel cells that are now compeltly feseable. And there are organic fuels, and there is fussion technology.

We have a lot of options, the government is just to 'busy' with other things.

You cant 'stop' an ice age

and why not?
We can stop using fosil fuels, there is hydrogen fuel cells that are now compeltly feseable. And there are organic fuels, and there is fussion technology.

not with our current tech.
especially not fusion technology.

Oh really.

Hydrogen fuels have finally been able to output an eqaul amount of fuel that it takes to opperate them, we are only years away. The problem is that the public is stupid enough to think that the hydrogen fuel cell could actually be dangerous.

The only debate about organic fuels is the fact that it takes gassoline to harvest them, and that engines are fit to run them yet. So it has been stated as inprofitable, but I think that this was all just a bribe from the big car companies to postpone their "Judgement Day"

And as for fussion power, its on the horizon. Check out this.

are you kidding me...

there are so many markets that are dominated by American companies that it isnt funny.
here, a list
Beef Industry
Fast food industry
Soft Drink industry (shh, I'm on a fats roll)
Computer industry
Military industry
Education industry (Its a stretch, but it can fit if you consider how many international student's we accept)
Innovation
"The Bread Basket" enough said

the EU dominates some, like say:
Wines
Cheeses
Fine metal crafting

China:
Toy industry
Production of simple parts

SK and Japan
Gaming Industry
Software Programming

as you can clearly see we are pretty branching while most other countries are specialized.
I'll have to look up in the EU market some more (I can admit, I'm not an expert on their economy), but its clearly not as diverse as the American one, why do you think our GDP per capita is so much larger? (150% of Euro's)

as for the British Empire, the only reason that cant be considered a hyperpower was because it was dealing with extreme regional competition, the spaniards, french, russia etc.

we dont have that problem really. overspecialization has taken care of that for us. we are the only country in the world with enough of a truly diverse climate taht we can bring that all together.

Um... wrong thread.
wow, shit.

well, this was because there was a board issue, so I had to cut and paste... so...
this came.
but I'll get to the point on this one.
The problem is that the public is stupid enough to think that the hydrogen fuel cell could actually be dangerous

its more than just taht. think about the infrastructure that went into the gas industry!
that plus much more

not to mention a hydrogen gas leak would be more dangerous, as it spreads much faster than hydrocarbon derivitives. (it spreads up, but taht doesnt matter in high-rise situations, infact taht makes it worse)
The only debate about organic fuels

they also produce CO2. they are hydrocarbons

the only difference is taht they remove CO2 in the process. but still, that wont be as efficient.
And as for fussion power, its on the horizon. Check out this.

I've watched hours on this. they can only get 03% of what they put in back. this is a retarded amount compared to what they SHOULD be getting
the heat dissipates WAY TOO FAST despite our best of best efforts, we would need a material revolution to fix it.
Wrong wrong wrong wrong!!!

They have found a way to get more back than what the put it. Read the actual article

And as for hydrogen fuel cells, they dont use hydrogen gas, they use Water, hydrogen gas is broken away. But, the minute amount of it would pose no real danger.
Oh and earlier you said that we could 'stop' an ice age.

Exactly how?
And as for hydrogen fuel cells, they dont use hydrogen gas, they use Water

no, they CREATE water by breaking the H2 bonds and creating 2 O-H bonds.
hydrogen is what is the flamable substance. where the hell did you get this from
They have found a way to get more back than what the put it. Read the actual article

no! I've had multiple sources on it, have watched 3 videos AND have read it in 2 different sciam articles.
and besides, I dont have time.
my only proof is this: if it currently worked, then we would spend money on it because it is FAR cheaper than buying oil and its more reliable and less dangerous. we dont and thats because IT DOESNT WORK (yet)
your one source is not enough to counter the scientists in SEVERAL sources that I have read who point this out as a far far out in the future thing
sure its promising, but we dont have the tech for it now.
Oh and earlier you said that we could 'stop' an ice age

don't see the issue here...
sure it'll take a lot of energy and manipulation, but hopefully in a few thousand years we will have the capacity.

AGH
in a vain attempt to get back on track

there are three HUGE things that make me irrate about this
1) SYMBOLIC??? it does NOTHING!!! why am I paying taxes so that some fatass people can wave around a sheet of paper saying "I THOUGHT SOMETHING TODAY!!! WOOPEDY DOO!!!" nothing was accomplished by this bill except expressing the OBVIOUS fact that democrats *gasp* DONT LIKE THE WAR. This is insulting, I think I realized this without the help of some 200 page legal FART sheet.
2) Congress doesnt have power over war for a REASON. THIS SPECIFIC REASON. you cannot have 600 people all in the driver's seat for a war, choices become too fickle and the minimal nescessary stability for war time goes OUT the window.
Additionally the President decides war time because he is more intelligent than his constituents (you can insult his accent and his english, but he's still smarter than most of you, at least when it comes to running a country). You dont know anything about war, which is why you dont have much of a say in it, this especially applies to congress. Congress should stay OUT of where it doesnt belong. Thats why they only get to approve/dissaprove of budget, because they understand money, not war.
3) and this one goes straight to the hearts of nike fans everywhere: JUST DO IT. Congress has power over the purse strings for a reason. They need to make a stand, you either SUPPORT THE TROOPS and allow them to do WHAT THEY DO BEST, or you PULL THE RUG OUT FROM UNDER THEIR FEET AND DITCH THE WHOLE THING, you cowards. make a FUCKING choice, blasted bureaucrats.

now, if you pay attention my reasons are purely nonpartisan. so lets not make this a political debate, lets all consol each other in the tedious idiocy of our current government.
