Bloody Alliances

Im sure its too late for a last minute-minor tweak to the expansion pack? Been playing the betas since they were released and LOVE the improvements so far. Absolutely excellent.
What irks me, is it seems the AI places more emphasis on Alliances this time around. I usually play a Neutral, high diplomatic-econ. race through a majority of the game and then about a little more than halfway through after the other civs have fought eachother to the brink of extinction ill work my way in one at a time picking them off either militarily or influentially. The problem with this strategy is that about halfway through the game, once everyone has the alliance tech..they all go ape shit. Youll have almost every single race allied to 3-4 other races and then a constant, no-end and all-out galactic war. Usually this wont bother me if im still in my neutral state, cause i can still reap the benefits of being able to trade with everyone and support my friends behind the scenes.
Anyways, my question is can we please have a beginning of the game option to 'disable alliances'. I lovelovelove that we can disable surrendering and tech trading, but i feel like alliances sometimes get overused and muck up the game just like those other two options do.
Any help on getting around this issue or a nod of approval for a future idea for the game from the devs?

It might be hard to do that. A major part of the tech tree IS the Alliances.
I agree, alliances can get tangled up. It would be nice if they could make it so Alliances couldn't be made, and you still have the tech. At least with the major races. The minors wouldn't matter as much.

Weird: I almost never see the AI ally. I wonder what you're doing that I'm not...

One weird thing I noticed in my last game, I would declare war on a race and their allies wouldn't always declare war too. They may a month or two into the war, but it wasn't a two front war right off the bat.

The AI does seem to flip-flop alot, but I don't think its doing anything that the human player wouldn't do. The only problem is that the AI doesn't seem to realise when its NOT a good time for war, and usually chaos ensues. I think thats partly due to how is measures military might.

I've noticed that things can very quickly devolve into a world war one type scenario where everyone gets dragged into battle by their net of alliances. What seems wierd is that the AIs don't appear to be taking my allies into account... they'll declare war on a civ with many alliances and then get crushed by the allies.... they could have taken the one civilisation on easily, but the combined power of that civs allies (or even just one of them!) dwarfs the aggressor.

Also, treaties seem to create a kind of half alliance, with almost the same effect. The AIs seem a bit too fond of declaring war when their partner in an economic or research treaty starts a war or gets attacked... which sets off a chain reaction of war declarations. Not even just quietly handing warships to their partners...

That might be my personal favorite part of the game. I trade for one race to declare war, and forty-something declarations of war are sent out! It's Fantastic!
