Scoring on the Forums !

Just curious.

I have been around for quite some time now and I have yet to figure out how exactly to score points on these forums for the forum stats.

I am currently ranked 57th but I only have 1 point for each post. Now, everyone above me has more points and less posts. Of the top 100 commenters on the forums, only 4 have the same amount of points as they do posts. Byram (69) Jmgarth (73) Mystikmind (79) and myself (57).

How does the scoring work? Does it work?

This is by no means why I post on the boards, but it is a fun stat to watch.

Thank you in advance for any information regarding this matter.

Don't know. Don't know.

If you read the comment, which is the only information I have, it suggests that you get "extra" points for "high quality content". I guess this means your posts aren't worth much.

Actually, I'm just joking here.    I'm guessing that you may get an extra point or two on a very random and occasional basis. It's seems that most folks with a noticeable difference are very long time contributors. Perhaps this was something that *used* to work. The long timers with a noticeable difference have an "extra" 125~150 points. Of course the biggest difference is Frogboy's 424 points. But who's going to tell him that his posts don't have "high quality content". *needing rolling eyes smilie*

I never knew the post count was managed?

Myself, i have never posted a game score.... mainly because i never finish a game! yea i get too bored once the AI keels over. Funny thing is, when i'm struggling to survive in a game, i wish for the day i would have a strong position - then when i attain the strong position, the game no longer interests me, strange eh?

when i'm struggling to survive in a game, i wish for the day i would have a strong position

I am currently playing a game where I am struggling myself and I do want to be in a better position.

then when i attain the strong position, the game no longer interests me

This however will not be the case for me. I made a crucial mistake and allowed my military to fall to far behind while I concentrated on my social projects. The Korx declared War and knocked half my freighters out the first week. The second week the Arceans declared... ( I am thinking that the Arceans persuaded the Korx to go to war with me because they are very dominate in my game at the moment.) I had to drop everything I was doing and Max my military slider to try and churn out ships. Will take a while to catch up but I just scored my first victory in about 2 months worth of fighting.

I am going to play this one out. The Arceans and Korx will pay for their treachery!

As far as the original post...

Ahhh well. Back to the old forum boards.

Before the forum upgrade, there used to be an option to flag posts as insightful or trolling. I'm guessing this flags affected your forum point count...

I miss that option.

That indeed would be a cool option, however I could see how it could be abused. It would be interesting though if everyone could select one deserving post and one trolling post per week or some other method of limiting this.

I think you recieve more points for authoring a post than you do for just replying. That's why some have higher score than post counts.

I think I have about 10 posts I created. Still no difference in score though.

By the way Deth, I think your new image is pretty cool.

I think authoring is a seperate category, at least it's listed seperately, and as far as I could tell that score exactly equals the number of posts.

Thanks Quixen, I actually have to repair it. I originally uploaded it two weeks ago and it just changed yesterday out of nowhere.   Now that I see it I need to resize and reupload it for it to display better, but I'll probably get the two week delay again.

hmmm... I'm not sure then. I had thought that was reason for some of the wonky scoring after noticing the difference in some peoples score. I thought they were just authoring more. I actually just discovered the forum stats not long ago, couldn't believe I was in the 30s. I sure spout off a lot.

Edit: I just looked I have 562 comment and 576 score, Have no idea...

Just where exactly do you find this ranking?

Top Commenters

Go to Metaverse / High Scores / Forum Stats. There's a seperate list for authors and commenters (BTW I don't think commenter is a legitimate word, shouldn't this be commentator?).

The points system is Stardock-Site-Wide (which means that points accumulate from any stardock website you participate on) and is currently under review and reworking. Simply put - it's a mess. It was created for a much smaller volume and wasnt intended to scale how it has been forced to. (It was originally concieved for joeuser.com)

That being said, I would invest too much time trying to figure it out, as it's more than likely that it's going to change very soon.

Thanks for the insight. I do have to comment that I appreciate the obvious effort that has been recently put into these forums. The work has made a noticeable difference but clearly there's more to come.

On the forum "scores" it would be nice to have some method for folks to provide both positive and negative feedback about various posts and posters. The only thing about this would be that such input should be rather limited, for example one yea and one nay per week. Otherwise, just a few folks could "spam" the results unrealistically. Just my 2 cents.

Again thanks.

This sounds like it is a good thing. Thanks for the update.

Think we could get any insight on how it may change?

I hope nothing drastic will happen. I am rather fond of the forums and since I will have such a hard time making the top 50 playing the game, at least I can do it shooting my mouth off! (in a good way of course)

I think the only changes Andrew is talking about here are changes in how posts are "ranked". I can't imagine how that could make any kind of drastic change. As far as I can tell, most posters aren't even aware that there are forum rankings.

For example Evil Stormbringer, who has authored 45 articles (20th) and made 704 replies (18th) didn't realize such a thing even existed.

So, for all that are interested in scoring on these forums, I have an update. I have reached the 51st position since I began this thread, climbing 6 positions in the last 9 days. I have been watching the score on a daily basis and as of tonight my score has succeeded my posts by 2 points. I have posted 437 times and now have a score of 439. Again, I have no idea how this happened as the content from my very first post versus my last has remained pretty constant.

Just my observations.

Hmm where are you seeing these numbers? Maybe I'm having a slow day... hehe

Metaverse / High Scores / Forum Stats / Top Commenters / More

Quixen is now in 50th position with 446 comments and a total score of 448.

Quixen, don't worry, now that you're in the metaverse council you'll probably shoot up to the top ten in no time (you only have about 600 posts to go). I went from 1100 posts to over 1400 in less than two weeks.
