Beta 2 bugs & observations

Just finished a quick beta 2 game, observations:
-Sounds didn't work in the first beta but now they are all fine!
-Nice to see that most of the graphical bugs also seem to be gone
-The are much more interviews, more questions could be nice for future releases, now I had to respond to the same questions every now and then
-In overall gameplay seems to be much more intensive
Couple of new bugs i found:
-When going into options from main menu game crashes to desktop, but from game this works ok
-a minor one: when I'm out of money and can't fly the game says that: "Not enough stamina to perform action"

Are there any plans to put a electoral vote counter on the main interface? Base it on the current polling data? Could fit nicely on the right side.

Letar:
-That's weird that the options screen would crash in one instance and not the other. We'll be on the lookout for what's going wrong there.
-Little message mis-prints like that are good to know (they take away fro mthe game's polish). We'll have that fixed pretty quickly.

Corran:
-I dont think there are...that may end up giving the user too much information. On the otherhand, since the polling data is slightly 'off' throughout the game, it may be something we could add without giving too much away. We'll bat that idea around.

My observations so far in my first attempt at Beta 2:

1) I would like to see at least one Independent candidate so that you could at least have a 3 way election.

2) When you click on the magnifying glass to examine a candidate there is a box called Points that contains a symbol and a number. The number is different for different candidates? What is this? There is no popup help to explain what this value means.

Unfortunately, that's as far as I can get. I can't start the game! When I get to the party and candidates screen I have the option to go Back, but not forward. Next to the Back button is a red button that says Loading but I cannot do anylthing with it. I can mark my candidate as Ready but cannot do so for the computer opponent. How do I actually start a game?

1) Can't do it. We're totally set up for only 2 players. Maybe in a sequel or something.

2) The points is basically the raw number. We haven't decided how to explain it yet.

Also, no offense but in another post you said how much better a competing game was. How could you make that argument if you haven't been able to even play The Political Machine?

The loading means the game is loading in the background. We'll need to put in a screen that shows a loading screen instead of just changing the button text.

Maybe I was misleading, Brad. I played The Political Machine under the first beta just to work around and get a feel for the game. I don't dislike your game at all; I just don't understand most of the mechanics of it. I will probably get a better feel for it once I play it some more but it's probably just my frustration at not understanding what everything means that is discouraging me. I've been waiting for this game for a long time and just want to see it be everything it can be.

You say that the "loading" message means the game is loading in the background. But that message is there immediately upon coming to that screen, before I select a candidate, party, or anything. Is that the way it's supposed to be and I'm just not waiting long enough?

You don't have to create a whole additional screen so long as it is apparent that the loading is proceeding normally. You could put a percentage by the loading button. So long as the percentage is continuing to advance players will more patiently wait.

I have the same problem. I have let it sit there for a while, but it doesnt seem to do anything. Also I can not select the ready checkbox for the CPU player like I could in Beta1. I select it, and it immediately deselects it.

Issues I had:

1. Had to use the nointro workaround.
2. I also had trouble checking the box for the AI. Had to go to the main menu and back again a few times and it finally worked.
3. I can't seem to click the news button at the top. I can see it highlighted a bit, but nothing pops up.
4. On election evening, some of the states would turn white, instead of red or blue. Electoral points were added appropriately, as far as I could tell, though.

Had a wierd one where the end turn button up and stopped working on turn 22. Didn't do anything particurally odd that turn, my last action had been a fund raiser with 3 stamina left. All other functions seemed to be active in the game and the end turn button would flash when clicked on, but no further action.

This happens to me at the end of Turn 1. I see a little flash in the background of an error message pop up, then the turn button no longer is active. I explain it more fully in the Game Crashes thread.
