Patch v1.4x: Overall Ranking Miscalculation

I have the v1.4x patch of galciv2: Dread Lords

I do check the overall ranking of the civs from time to time but for a while now, there must be a wrong formula for calculating the overall ranking of the civs. Usually my ranking is lower than what I should be. The following is an example...

The following is my ranking list (located at the right side of the stat's & graphs tab, from the civilization manager button):

Population 1st
Economy 1st
Military 4th
Technology 1st
Approval Rating 1st
Popularity 4th
Treasury 1st
Influence 1st
Production 1st

Also the GNN reported I'm the 1st in the 'Most Powerful Civ' list

But in the overall ranking it displays I'm '5th'. How is that possible? have you encountered the same problem?

I've noticed that my overall ranking is always closest to my military ranking. I could be number one in several categories, but if my military is middle of the pack my overall ranking will usually be there also.

I have noticed that my population is not being calculated properly along with the other races. For instance in one game I had 300,000 population at one point but during the United Planets voting thing it said my population was double what it was. I think that I also had the largest population in the game but the UP said that the Altarians (Sp?) had 1,600,000. That was way to many people for that stage of the game.

Any suggestions?

Here's another example of the mysterious, overall ranking (miscalculation)

Population 1st
Economy 1st
Military 2nd
Technology 1st
Approval Rating 1st
Popularity 3rd
Treasury 1st
Influence 1st
Production 1st

My overall ranking is 4th

UP votes are based on accumulated influence points rather than population. These are the same influence values that you have the option to trade with other races (effectively buying or selling votes). They build up each turn based on your influence that turn, and are reset to 0 after each UP meeting.

This is good to know. I was wondering why the changes were so drastic at times. I had no idea. Thanks for clarifying that Kryo.

Thanks Kryo, useful info. Quick question then, if I build influence starbases will this help to increase the accumulated influence and give me more power in the UP meetings?

Thanks again.

Yes it will as long as you take over more of the galactic map in doing so. I know that works. As far as if you built them where you already have influence, not sure, never tried.
