Changing "My Recent Documents"

Hi. I have tried everything I can think of to change the folder for "My Recent Documents" on the START menu in Windows XP (right now it's just the standard default icon, even though I have all the others changed through IP). Can anyone help me? It's driving me nuts!

Thanks in advance!

: It's possible that the IP set you've applied does not include an image for this icon. Open up IP, right click your icon set and go to 'Preview'. Under the 'Folder Icons' section, does it have a customized image for 'My Recent Documents'?

My Recent Documents - Customized icon

For some reason, "My Recent Documents" isn't even listed in any of my formatting screens. So when I go to "Folder Icons" under Preview, it's not even one of the icons listed. I've tried right clicking the icon when I go to the start button, too, but I'm not even getting a menu when I do that.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply!

I've had the same problem ever since I've used Icon Packager. That icon is not listed in my "Folder Icons" list either. I guess I just assumed that nobody was interested in skinning that icon! (Rather silly reasoning, not that I think about it!)

That's strange...I wonder what IP the screenshot Mike posted is from. I think I have the most recent version, and it's paid for. Perhaps we have a version that's not quite as extensive as the support team has?

Hopefully it can be fixed. Like you said, it's trivial and I've ignored it for a while, too, but it's so annoying that when I open my Start menu, everything is uniform and custom except that one!

It shows up in mine too and I'm not on the support team.

On the "Packages" page in the list on the right side try checking each box except Cursors.

IP ver 3.19b.008
enabled 'recent docs' = default icon
opened IP and checked package has it - Cryo Xmas = yes
all checked except Quick Launch and Cursors
reloaded/applied package = "recent docs" icon now skinned

apparently it doesn't change that which was not enabled prior to application

Hmm. I had them all checked, but even when I remove the Cursor box, I still can't see the "My Recent Documents" folder.

What system are you running yours on? Is it IP version 3.11?

XP

Is it IP version 3.11?

no - see below:

I know it worked on 3.11, unfortunately I'm heading to work... don't have time for a rollback/look see at this time

Strange. I was thinking perhaps it's something with my XP settings, but even playing around with that, I can't seem to change it.

One a side note, how do you get such a new version? Are you not allowed to update to a newer version for free after you purchase it? Mine is only 3.11 (x86)...

Thanks for your help; I guess I'll just have to deal with it Happy Holidays!

Joy, Install Stardock Central Link, enter your serial number or email address, and click "Show pre-release versions" at the bottom of the screen. It should display the latest build of IP in the Object Desktop tab.

I believe this still only works if your are a current ODNT (full package) subscriber.

Oh well, nevermind.....

Well, Joy does show as "Current Customer (4)" - just not sure what it means exactly.

Means she has at least one current license to a Stardock product.

Joy... I'm using the same version as you, and my Recent Docs works fine.
Can you change the folder icon manually? Go to C:\Documents and Settings\*USERNAME*
Right click "My Recent Documents" > select Properties.
On the Customize tab > click Change Icon > use the Browse button to find the icon you want to use. Select the icon > Open > OK > OK. You may need to refresh to see the change......... does that work?

Thanks for all of your help, guys....I finally got it!

When I went to change it manually through C:\Documents and Settings... I actually don't have a "My Recent Documents" folder listed. I have a "Recent", which I think is the same thing, and I customized that manually. Then after I went in and refreshed everything it worked.

Thank you so much--it looks so great now!

Have a nice holiday!

I have the latest beta installed and have tried the stable 3.11 version, but still not "My Recent Document" icon listed in IP. ???

Edit
Never mind.. it is package relevant.

I am still having the same problem too. Even after manually changing the "Recent" folder icon. Seems to me it did work fine before, but not now.

Someone must have the solution.

I'm in the same boat. If I change it manually and refresh, it usually will change, but it doesn't stay that way. I'm noticing more than a few folders that are like that....it's rather annoying!

Hi guys

I had the same problem, like 2 minutes ago  was actually looking for a solution when I found this post, and I think I might have the fix for you who still have a problem with this.

This is what I did:
Right click anywhere on the start menu and click Properties then click Customize
Then click on the Advance tab and then Clear List after doing that uncheck the "List empties the My Recent Documents folder" click OK and OK

When doing so the "My Recent Documents" wont show on the Start Menu. Now do everything again from the start except for the "Clear List", when you click OK and OK the "My Recent Documents" will show with the icon included in the package.

Worked for me!
