UI not as clear to read at zoomed in levels, as in tactical levels

I often play GC2 / DA on larger maps because i enjoy a nice long game. But i also like to see at a glance everything that's going on in my empire, so I’ve gotten used to playing in the zoomed out tactical display mode. However, lately, I’ve started playing some smaller map games, and staying zoomed in so I can see some of the nice eye candy in the universe. And this is where I noticed some issues.

Sometimes it's very difficult for me to see where things are zoomed in on the map without the tactical overlay icons. For example, ships; some can be quite dark colored, and you have to click on them to know what race they belong to. And anomalies, I can't see them at all against a black space background sometimes. So that got me thinking, how hard would it be for you guys to put in an option to display the particular item's tactical overlay icon at the bottom right of the object, as is done with the race's symbol on planets? This would help identify things much easier close up, and I wouldn't imagine it is too difficult to implement?

Is there any support for this idea out there amongst players? Devs, would it be a hard thing to implement?

Go to Options, on the Interface tab, and adjust the "Tactical View Zoom Level" slider.  The lower the value, the more you'll see tactical view.  You can even adjust this in mid-game and see the results immediately after switching back from the menu.

well yes i know, but that replaces the ships, planets, etc... with their tactical overlay images. I was talking about seeing the eye candy and the icon at the same time, and not having to switch back and forth, which would be really annoying.
