Starbase prices?

They keep going up

In my current gigantic/tough Metaverse game, I have a logistics ability of 24. I've used 18. Mining bases are free but economic/influence/military bases have a fee and that fee goes up every time I attempt to build a new base.

Am I missing something? I thought there was no charge until I exceed my logistics ability.

No, the prices continue to go up as you get closer to your total logistics ability.
If you research the next levels of logistics and or build a hyperion logistics system, the cost of your next non-mining starbase will go down.
