Bugs > User Overrides - "Advanced Settings" that don't work, etc.

"Allow skins to replace user Icons". etc.

Bugs: 1. "Skins" selection screen control "Change Skin Color" has NO effect on ANY default skin (or any other I've downloaded) and causes WB5 to go unresponsive entirely 2. "User Overrides" - "Advanced Settings" that doesn't work - Can NOT uncheck this item. Click till cows come home and WON'T uncheck at all. 3. See other message regarding WB5 improper handling of background (wallpaper) images (especially for Dual Monitors) 4. No setting (unless burried deep and I can't find it) to load or not load WB5 at boot time (system start).

Sorry just reproofed the original text and there's info missing.

2. "User Overrides" - "Advanced Settings" that doesn't work - Can NOT uncheck this item. Click till cows come home and WON'T uncheck at all.

I needed to add - the item in this section that WON'T uncheck is:

"Allow skins to replace user icons"

As i read this selection >>> there's no way to STOP a skin from "replacing user icons" this if it can't be unchecked.

I have also uninstalled LogMeIn to make certain there was nothing "funky" about that driver having grabbed the 2nd monitor and this setting (wouldn't have thought there was) and it makes no difference.

Also, have installed the latest Nvidia drivers (again not that it would matter for this issue).

The behavior regarding dual monitors, the background wallpaper and WB5 not handling tiling properly wasn't resolved by these changes either (thought it might have for this issue).

So was this info helpful to anyone that might be looking into the issue at all, or is asking for the WB5 system info just SOP?

(When trying to properly edit and format text; using a standard browser straight off the web site is a far superior experience than using StarDock Central for the forums)

P.S. Well once again server lag submitting the posting has caused a double post. Wait times for the server(s) to accept a post are dismally long and I actually got a server failure error which prompted me to resend it; which apparently caused this double to happen.

WindowBlinds stops loading at startup when you choose either the Windows Classic by microsoft or the Windows XP Style by Microsoft selection(the first 2 in the skin chooser). You can then unload WindowBlinds(you no longer need it since you are then using one of the stock Microsoft versions). The next time you reboot or turn your computer back on after shutdown, WindowBlinds won't load. If you shutdown or restart with a WindowBlinds skin loaded WindowBlinds reloads. It's that simple.

It works fine on mine, no problems. I have a more recent WB build(5.49a[b].021. So someone more familiar with your version will have to look at your build numbers to see if there's anything there. Be patient.

I have also had no problems with skin recoloring. I have a question, did you ever have the WindowBlinds Trial version installed?

Not exactly intuitive, but ok; and I can see some logic to it since WB5 has changed the default windows theme in significant ways; so not booting with a theme only supported by WB would likely NOT be a good thing. I can say this, setting it back to the default windows theme doesn't really set it "all the way back", since I've noticed anomolies, but it can be managed once WB5 is out of the way.

Any insite into the wallpaper not tiling properly on a dual monitor setup inside WB5 (beta wasn't any better about it); unless I go to native windows display properties find the original image and and tell the native WinXPPro API dialog window to tile and it then it does.

I have to be very very careful to avoid the menu in WB5 called "wallpapers" because it will absolutly improperly handle a dual screen monitor setup with a 2560 x 1024 wallpaper image everytime; displaying 1/2 of the image as if it were being centered or stretched. BTW, what is "smart" setting really supposed to do? It takes the entire image and makes it smaller with the default plain color border around it, but at least it's not cut in 1/2 and cloned to the 2nd screen.

How about the menu item about ""Allow skins to replace user icons" not being able to be unchecked? Does it work in your copy of WB5?

I have also had no problems with skin recoloring. I have a question, did you ever have the WindowBlinds Trial version installed?

Yes before I bought it about 3 days actually. I uninstalled it first though and rebooted. The first version I installed after buying and registering it was the beta your running, but I had way to many problems fighting it and uninstalled it and reinstalled to the current release version, using SDC to do it all.

Thanks for the response appreciate it.

cef1000:

I asked for the WB system info. becuase it's a key part in WB troubleshooting.

All your dates match mine, though I have none of your problems.

You can wait for Stardock support here on the forums if you want, but there's no guarantee that they'll respond. I suggest contacting Stardock via support@stardock.com. The forums, while sometimes frequented by Stardock Employees is not "official" support.

If before you contact them via e-mail you would like to test some things, I highly recommend an uninstall/reinstall of WindowBlinds. As BigDogBigFeet pointed out, if you have had the trial previously installed, make sure to uninstall that as well. After each uninstall/reinstall, remeber to reboot!

All reinstall's should be done through Stardock Central

nothing in the file dates/times

they match 5.1 release
is asking for the WB5 system info just SOP?

kinda. sometimes we spot mixed files that cause issues - particularly if someone didn't uninstall a trial before installing a paid.

"Allow skins to replace user icons" should uncheck

try switching skins and see if maybe it unsticks
checking previous forum posts........

BDBF is right, choosing a classic or xp default skin unloads WB and it won't run at startup (no reason to run if your using default skins)

try kilokrash's suggestion of uninstall/reinstall via SDC - don't forget the reboots.

you show as a current customer - if ODNT subscriber you can also get the latest beta version (suggest get released first, then set SDC to autoarchive on updates) by checking 'show prerelease' down at the bottom

I have no experience trying to run a dual monitor system, but there definately others who do. Since you are just getting started my next stop, cef1000, would be to submit a ticket to Stardock Support(just like KiloKrash mentioned). Email them support@stardock.com. Include your system information report that you pasted here. Skins should recolor without a problem and that's what made me think you had a previous trial version installed. Work with Stardock support to resolve why those 2 functions aren't working. Be patient. I'm sure Stardock will work on it for you.

I've been here and done this. I can do it again, but, it's for drill at this point, and I'm wondering why the install/uninstall on this mature of a product is so, Hmm, to be polite: picky!

1. DL'ed and installed the trial played with it unisntalled it and installed it again to give it another try (all within 3 days). Decided WB5 was finally stable enough to buy it.

2. Uninstalled Trial and rebooted

3. installed SDC and dl'ed and installed the beta (and some of the other stuff) had way to many instability issues, so used SDC to uninstall almost everything I had installed except the documentation, rebooted, and

4. installed the current release of WB5 and a few other things and it all seemd much more stable, other than the things indicated in these posts.

BTW during the uninstalls and reinstalls everything possible that loads off the boot was disabled, including and especially NAV 2K7.

lol, yeah I'm current as a new born baby, as of the date of my first post, which wasn't posted without spending a lot of time trying to deal with all of it on my own. After 5 hours and multiple installs I was ready to post about the issues.

An FYI, I'm in IT and do support, FWIW; so I tend to be thurough.

Thanks for the help.

have no experience trying to run a dual monitor system,

Been running Duals since the first Matrox cards were available to do it, since WXP nativley supports it. No way to go back once you've got em, the productivity gains are huge.

Frankly, I'd run 4 if I could find the desk space, lol.

Thanks BDBF

Ok did the whole drill all over again, seems a bit better.

Tested coloring and it will change the color on the Aura skin, but can't change the saturation or luminence.

I was able to turn off the "Allow skins to replace the user icons" once after the reinstall but when I toggled it back on it's back to can't control it.

I haven't retested the WB5 handling of a tiled wallpaper, cause I'm to tired to do it and need some rest.

Thanks for all the help.

Tested this issue and it's still very broken.

I've turned a ticket into SD support and will keep you all posted in case someone is interested in the situation regarding wallpaper dual monitor handling in WB5.

Thanks all for your kind assistance.

sorry we couldn't get it going.

sorry we couldn't get it going.

Lol, no need to be sorry and thanks for the try.

Support has responded and opened a case.

To add to the data on this.

I set WB back to windows default and rebooted, turned off or exited anything running in systray, started SDC and allowed WB to upgrade to the beta and rebooted. Set WB back to the Aura skin and:

Results:

Coloring now works properly for all 3 colorization dynamics, to recolor a skin.

The Allow skin to change user Icons - is still broken

The Wallpaper functionality is still broken, but the work around of opening windows display properties and setting "tiling" of the image still works.

So there is progress.
