Changing Minor Races

Can someone tell me how to change the portraits of the minor races? I know it was possible in the original game is it possible in this game? I do not know much about modding so I will need simple step by step instructions.

For those minors who are defined in RaceConfig.xml, you can simply edit the file to point at the new ones. For those that are generated via events though (Vegans, Fundies, etc), the images used are hardcoded so they can only be changed by actually replacing the default image files.
