Inconsistent Fighter Values & Imbalance in Combat

This one could be "work in progress", and would be grateful if someone from Stardock could please advise if you want them - they are very common, and easy to pick up. I dont want to put them in Forum/mail them if they are of no use due to "work in progress". Below are comments on one engagement, if you want them, is this the way you want them laid out? Do you also want the saved game?

Scenario:
Single fighter takes on the Arcean Capital. Three ships in there, two older fighters and a recent fighter, the M5-1. Terran Fighter is a fresh, just upgraded fighter. No military starbases/resources on Arcean side, no fleet defence enhancement on the planet. So its a straight ship to ship battle.

Click on Terran fighter on map and it reports:
Missle Attack 4, Shield Defence 9, Armour 12 Hit points 20/20 (that includes a total of 48% support from two Terran Military resources - and maybe the battle values below caused by not taking those resources into account during the battle ??)

Click on another Arcean fighter of the same type on the map and it reports:
Driver Attack 2, Driver Defence 1, hit points 9/9 (has two x basic one point Attk Drivers)

End of engagement:
Arcean fighter destroyed, as it should be on those stats .....
but Terran fighter after the battle, it took 17 hit point damage according to the end of combat screen. With a defence of 12 against (admitedly 2) single drivers attack total value 2, the Terran paintwork shouldnt have been scratched with a defence six times the Arcean attack value, let alone a 17 hit point loss. Also the Arcean is being hit with a missle attk value of 4 where it has no defence, little chance of Arcean multiple shots in return to account for a 17 hit point loss.

Other inconsistent values:
On the map the Terran fighter was reported as having hit value of 20 prior to attack. At the end of engagement the combat screen reported a hit loss of 17, and final outurn value of 13/27, a click on the map icon also shows 13/27. Somehow it gained 7 taking it from 20 to 27 during the battle. Even taking into account the possibility of experience hits being added, none of the hit values for the Terran fighter appear to correlate, no matter at what point - or where - those values were taken.

Its a substantial variation from expectation, so I am trying to understand either where I went wrong, or in fact it is something that needs reporting. Grateful you advise on the utility of this as outlined in opening para, I dont want to waste time documenting if you dont need them.

Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed report.  It really does help when we can get a detailed description of what was going on in the game, what steps were taken to produce the bug, etc.  That way we have a good idea where to start when we try to reproduce and diagnose the problem.

There was a bug in the beta build that caused armor not to work properly (while other defense types worked fine).  That has been fixed for the next update.  It sounds like this might have been the culprit, since the ship had such high armor defense, and yet still was damaged.

If you have any saved games before the battle, that can reproduce this, it would be helpful if you could email it to gc2bugs@stardock.com so I can verifiy that is what the problem was.

Thanks.

I dont have the exact one I was describing, however, the attachment to the email below is a perfect example of the very common combat bug, and the same principle as my forum post above. I wont detail the values here, you can see it in the game file.

Save file in email Thu 30 Nov 14:34 GMT 650Kb from a .co.uk address sent to the gc2bugs mailbox

Load game - look top right of Arcean AOI. You will see a line of three Terran fighters/fleet, and another just to the right of the right edge of the Arcean AOI. So far those four alone have held back the Arceans on their own for well over one game year as a result of the "...... too powerful ...... secret meeting ..... all declare war" blah blah.

Due to the armour bug, I have had to resort to cash 'upgrading' fighters to keep up hit points. Its worked, but been a real hassle and caused massive delay (hence we are now in game year five) - those four have received the Zydor Medal of Honour for bravery beyond the call of duty in the face of Galatic Bugs rofl

Ok - find the Arcean Capital top end of their AOI & slightly to the right, look a few parsecs top left of it and you'll see Terran Fleet 226. Attack the Arcean Capital with that fleet, keep attacking until all those ships in the Capitol are gone - watch the Terran casualty rate, hit values etc before each attack as reported both on the map icon, and the hit values in the combat summary screen. Then with the remnents of the Terren fleet go straight to planet Hammer II in the same turn, and again keep attacking until all is done.

(in particular, note the combat screen values after the first on the Capitol, then look at the reported damage to the fleet shown on its icon in the combat screen as the second attack on the Capitol starts. First attack on Capitol not a lot of damage shows on the icon in the combat screen, but as the second attack is starting the fleet icon shows damage from their first attack .... )

Sit back and reflect that a fleet like that against poor low grade Arcean ships should be able to rip through the whole Arcean Empire's planets one by one as the Arceans have no Military resource or planet fleet defences. Also look very very carefully at ALL the detailed hit value entries reported in combat screen in context of before and after as reported by clicking on the fleet map icon. Think laterally and try and correlate all values, not just the 'head line' values - none correlate, therefore not only is there a armour bug, there appears to be some kind of mathematical addition/subtraction bug going on - although I acknowledge both could be one in the same bug source.

Its sounds like you already have it nailed from the post above, I will assume you dont want any more of this particular Armour one unless you indicate otherwise after this post.

Zydor,

Thank you for the detailed instructions.  I was able to use them to verify that the fix for the projectile defenses bug DID fix your problem. After the fix, those pesky Arceans were no match for your super fleet

If you hold onto your save, you should be able to continue it and take advantage of the fix once we get the next update out.

Thanks.
